Q     Why does the door of my car rattle?
I've taken my 19-plate Mercedes-Benz C-Class Convertible to be looked at because the passenger door rattles a lot. I was told it was just the sound that convertibles make. What is your opinion, I think that's rubbish and intend to go back in but would like your thoughts.

A    Is the rattle coming from within the door? If so, I imagine one of the internal clips has broken or come loose. In this case, the whole door card will need to be removed and refitted with new clips.

I am not familiar with todays Mercedes automobiles but maybe the dealer ( i take it a 19 car will be inspected by an official mercedes benz dealer) is correct.

It could well be that all mercedes convertible models have doors that rattle a lot. Could well be within tolerance, why not.

Last time i visited a merc dealership it was full with taxidrivers or criminals so nothing surprises me really..

THIS^^^^^  go to a Merc forum and look for the discussion on your model.  Chances are that it has happened before and someone has a DIY

Dealerships can be beyond useless with these type of repairs

My rationale for posting was I imagined the owner of a Lexus SC430 or ISC would probably have said..."rattle.....what rattle ?"

We would usually politely suggest the owner clears out the door pocket. After 15 years of hard use, the door speakers can occasionally flap a bit I suppose.

Not sure about the SC or the IS-C, but for many a 3GS owner, creaks and rattles are a way of life 😉

to be fair, I had the same issue with my IS a few weeks after I bought it (2yr old at the time), Lexus dealer said trim issues are not covered by warranty and sent me away.

I found a simple fix, with some felt tape, took me 5mins... that dealer would have retained by business if they could have been bother to help.... soon learn the good and bad ones.

It's German. What should the owner expect :-)

Depends on the dealership

Ive found Mercedes Hull/Grimsby to be exemplary - to Lexus standards in terms of customer care possibly because they don't get a huge amount of customers in the first place. Sorted out a panoramic sunroof rattle on son's car under warranty with no fuss at all.

Weirdly, theyre under Listers group, and as most of us have experienced, Listers Lexus i.e. Cheltenham, Lincoln etc have extremely poor prep and customer service standards compared to other Lexus dealers.

Lexus Coventry, also part of Lister Group have not figured in reports.

I used CARWOW a couple of years ago to buy a new W212 EClass and Mercedes Hull (Listers ) were outstandingly good!
