Closely followed by removal, dismantling, refitting the aerial motor and then installing the new mast. Just the same as on the GS. Feed the drive cable in as someone else turns off the radio. Voila! Done.

Today's little jobs were to sort out the virtually non-existent parking brake and see to a couple of patches of surface rust on the inner rear arches.

Wheel off (with the help of a rubber mallet) and shoes adjusted

Brushed out all the ******* that had gathered in the bottom of the arches

Generous coating of Waxoyl. Sorry, forgot to take a pic with the wheels still off. But I'd quite forgotten how good Waxoyl smells!

Looks like you caught the rust just in time but I'd be tempted to look closer if you haven't done so already. The rusted areas match exactly (more or less) to where my 96 LS400 had rusted through. The underseal gets thin towards the outer arches and these areas.

It would end up looking like the first picture below if left untreated for too long 😬 I sorted mine with epoxy resin, wire mesh and stainless self tappers.

It looks bad initially but when you get all the crud off and see what needs to be done it's not as bad. Not a 'pretty' finish at the end (I could have sanded the epoxy down to a smooth finish) but when all the trims are back on and the wheel you can't see it and it's done the job really well.

I think I have caught it in time but I will keep an eye on it. Gave it all a good prod with a screwdriver and nothing went through. I plan to give it a go over again in the coming days in case the spray missed any bits.

I knew where to look because a friend's LS has gone through in exactly the same place and have I seen your pics before? They look familiar.

It looks like it's a common issue if the channels are not cleaned out regularly, which in reality wouldn't normally happen unless you know about it. The gulley/channels are pretty deep and wide so gather a lot of crud over the years. I suspect other of owners have this issue but don't know about it until it gets really bad and an MOT picks it up.

And yes, you have probably seen the pictures on one of my topics, probably 'Lock down work' which is where I copied the pics from🙂

I did the plugwires and the caps , rotors and one coil where I could get to all the screws  . A few bits to take apart and Very many wires and fiddly to get everything nicely in place. It was a full weekends reasonable dose of car work for me to be honest.

Brave man Mikael! I'll content myself with just the plugs I think. The car is quite low mileage so I'd be surprised if the leads etc need replacing.

Took advantage of the hourly two post lift hire place down the road and changed the oil and filter Friday. So much easier than trying to get at everything using ramps or axle stands. Plus he disposes of the oil. Noticed that the genuine Toyota filter was considerably larger than whatever it was that I took off. And after taking some advice I used 10w-40 semi synthetic rather than 5w-30 fully synthetic.

And yesterday I added to the Waxoyl on the rear arches and while I was at it I cleaned up the rear hubs because the alloys were well and truly stuck on. Thought I should check the fronts too and found that the NSF wheel nuts were only on hand tight. And I mean I could undo them just with my hand  Tyre fitter obviously a little distracted!

Another job ticked off yesterday. Changed all the plugs. Eight being a personal record for me. Easy peasy though.

These look like the originals to me. I believe the service interval is 60k miles(?) which is spot on but leaving then 24 years is pushing it I think.
