Rad replacement put back due to units on back-order, car booked in for December 2nd as back-order due for delivery to Lexus on the 27th......🙄

Were you thinking of selling recently Barry or keeping hold for now? Also think we are relatively local to each other, I've never spotted your car but a lad at work said he'd spotted a blue ISF a few weeks back.

@scott-o fleeting thoughts. Had an eye for a black r35. Given up that thought now, hence gone to the route of changing the radiator etc.

where abts did he spot me? I am local to newcastle but do head up to northumberland on a regular basis and i do drive mine on a regular basis/ probs will increase use in coming months as my mr2 will be heading to the garage for the winter.

I spotted a local black 08 isf recently on the coast road as of last week.
 

happy for a meet up if you fancy.

It was on the coast road too funnily enough! Mines my daily car so will keep an eye out if im up that way. I work in Durham but live a little south but do get up to Newcastle with work.

Yes we will have to one time, be interested to hear what you think of the new suspension and RR Racing bushes!

i have had the kwv3 and bushings for almost a year now, and they are fine. The ride is definitely better but it is still stiff, but then i have lowered the car so cant complain.

 if i have a second chance, airlift.

Today was the day for the rad replacement, service, auto box fluid change and wiper blades 🙄.....was told it’s hard to judge the corrosion level as it normally fails from the inside, I took a couple of photos, she is a 2008 with 69200 miles on her......service carried out was 70k.

There’s very light corrosion at the base BUT probably caused by rain water sitting on it, I was told they tend to fail from within, could of taken rad home and cut in half to see condition......cost was £526 all in......then service and auto box fluid change on top.......£806 total BUT cheaper than £5k for a failure.........they did say there wasn’t any rhyme or reason for some failing and others not 🤷🏼‍♂️

I still havent received mine yet. Told me ETA 25th november. Tried chasing it up, no one has got back to me yet from Lexus direct part. 😩

I’m sure it’ll be fine, hopefully the photos will put your mind at rest a bit, the added bonus for me is that the guy that worked on mine in Westfield has one too, he was literally dribbling with joy, I trust (Ian and Chris implicitly) the owners of Westfield BUT to have a mechanic there that owns an F has made me even more confident.

I still can't believe Lexus create them this way knowing it's a failure point in previous models. 

I was hoping they'd have ironed it out after the GS and LS. Seems I'm changing a rad on the F when it turns up 😂

It’s a tough call, the actual design is excellent (in its intended function) which is to warming the gearbox oil and giving full use of all gears and protects damage from hard driving from cold.....this is obviously the down side.....think the biggest issue is not knowing the maintenance of the car 100%......possibly only takes someone to top up with tap water and that’ll be the start of longitivtiy of the part put in jeopardy.......it seems to be a design they still use today across the auto line up. Hopefully all will be ok 👍🏻

I paid £496 for a new radiator fitted from an independent for my GS.

Think Lexus wanted £600, presumably before VAT.

Yes, I don’t trust main-dealers I’m afraid.....BUT I do make sure the Indy specialise in the field they advertise as, I’ve used Westfield for around 18 years now with all my Lexus and family jap wagons 👍🏻

600h is still a Toyota. I find Indys want repeat business so go that extra mile with what they’ve done and their honesty with what they find.....they’re not paid if there’s no cars to work on unlike main agent’s

I am in agreement. I think the only purpose with dealer for me is the stamp for the service record.

Thought i might as well keep this thread going for ongoing maintenance, hopefully it may give others the motivation to do things themselves too.

Got round to doing my disks and pads at last, recently. I've seen people on tis forum being quoted up to £950 parts and labour to replace the disks and pads on the front of these and before i got the car i made sure this wasnt the case generally, gladly it wasnt!

I got the discs awhile ago when Autodoc had a really good sale on, OE brembo discs were £114 for the pair delivered. The discs and calipers are brembo as standard and the discs are exactly the same as standard. 

I then spent ages looking into pads, the standard brembo ones are terrible for brake dust as im sure many of you know, i mean really annoying amounts, so i was keen to fit an aftermarket pad that wouldnt hamper the braking capabilities of the car but would produce a lot less dust! All the 'good' ones you seem to have to import in from Japan or the USA where these cars are more plentiful. You can get EBC pads over here quite easily and their new ceramic compound red pads seemed to be the ones for me reading up on them. I know in the past EBC have managed to get a bad rep for some circles but i've had redstuff pads in the past before the compound went ceramic and they seemed great for the use and reports of this new compound seemed even better than the old one. These came in at £115.

Usually i give my daily cars to my friends garage to do the work but i've been keen to do things myself with this car, when i can. With these big brakes the calipers make it really easy to change the pads, pretty much the same as a mountain bike hydraulic brake but much bigger! It took me about 2 hours all in, including 30 minutes to get my old car out of the garage and swap it with the Lexus, ive no off road parking so have to try and be quick. This time also includes the resulting chats you get in to once the old thing comes out of the garage!

The pins dont appear to have been lubricated up at the last change and were a tiny bit of a pain to remove, as was the big brace pin in the centre! I cleaned these up with some fine grade wet and dry and used graphite paste before refitting.

So the total spent was £229 as opposed to £950 and the solution is arguably better than standard! Just need to treat it to a wash now!
