I have a lexus 220d 2010 and I can use the keyfob to open the doors but it intermittently wont start the car.  I press the clutch pedal down and I dont get any light on the start button at all, I keep on trying for about 20 mins to half hr and it eventually starts. Does anyone know what this could be and whether it would be worth fixing as I only paid £2k for the car, also I have been told I can only get this done at a main dealers which is about 50 miles away in cardiff and I am in swansea. Or does anyone know of any way to bypass this button to start the car?

Have you tried holding the fob close to the start button when trying to start the car?

Yea I tried that this morning but nothing happened,  I have replaced the batteries in both my remotes but that didnt help either.

Holding the fob very close to the start button overrides the need for the fob transmitter, and batteries. The transponder in the fob reacting directly with the pickup ring in the start button. Since the problem exists with both fobs the fault is likely to be with the start button pickup or ECU. I think you are going to need Techstream, and a laptop to check out the system,

John.

Would there not be a switch on the clutch pedal that may be faulty?

There is nothing on the pedal itself, I am not sure if there is something attached to the pedal under the floor but I cant see anything.
