Temp and fuel gauge not working, help.

Recommended Posts

Hi I'm new to this site but have read a few submissions. You seem a friendly lot so I wonder if you could offer me any advice.

I have a 2003 GS300 which has been faithful for many years. But I had a drain on the Battery which is now fixed but the fuel and temp gauge suddenly did a 360 and couldn't move due to the pins. It could be due to me jump starting it though its never happened before. I took it to Lexus who weren't interested said it would cost too much to fix, so I found another highly recommended garage who 'problem solve'. They manually turned the dials back and now the fuel remains on full [wish this were true] and the temp gauge stays on a quarter instead of half. They suggested replacing the clocks but did not know whether it would need a software program. They said they would find out and ring me, they didn't. I dont think they know. Should I change the clocks? Would this solve the problem and does it need programming? I would appreciate any suggestions . Thanks

Hi Bernadette and welcome to the LOC.

Never come across this fault before but given the work already done a replacement cluster would seem to be the best solution or transplant the two gauges from another cluster into yours.

As far as I know no reprogramming is required but of course the replacement cluster will show a different mileage.

For a replacement it’s probably going to be eBay unless you find an online breaker with one.

There are quite a few
