I was driving my 1990 Ls400 and suddenly the trany went out as neutral. I packed and after a while started and it came up.  Not long it went out again. I noticed that each moment I stopped,  turn off engine wait for a moment and turn on again it come up. I continued the the turning off and turning on,  to drive to a safe place as far as 120km until it packed up completely.  I scanned it and got transmission code 63 saying OD clutch sensor malfunction.  I was told I need to replace a complete transmission.  Please is there anything I could do to fix without replacement of complete transmission?

HI

I have never heard of a transmission going on the earlier models like yours.

Perhaps there is another factor which has LED to this

I would let a transmission specialist have a look and then decide the best course of action.

what mileage has you LS done?

63 is a code for a solenoid I think, so it may not be an internal problem. Take it to a trusted specialist, it sounds like whoever told you it needs a new transmission might not be trustworthy.

The gearboxes of your car last forever and very rarely indeed give any trouble. I had a look at my scanner's DTC library with all the letter prefixes, C, P, U etc but nothing relates to a gearbox malfunction.

If it is anything related to a clutch malfunction, you may have low oil level and the oil pressure operating the clutches is low. A solenoid may be unable to engage fully due to debris in the oil. You may have a clogged oil filter.

Before condemning the gearbox I would change the oil and the filter using original parts.

I was once told my air con had failed and all needed to replaced - by an air con 'specialist'.

Second opinion - 'needs re-gassing'. That's what i did and it was fine for ever more...

After replacing transmission fluid, checking and washing solenoids and OD clutch sensor,  my it cannot function in D, 2, or L, but it selects and moves fine on R. What is next to the faults please?
