Hi All

I am looking for some advice please. I bought my Son a 2000MY GS300 about 6 months ago and it has been running brilliantly. It is pretty low mileage, 72,000 miles from new, Lexus dealership FSH, own by a Doctor for 16 years, etc, so its not been abused in any way.

He drove it home from work on Monday night with no problems or warning lights, etc, parked it up. A couple of hours later the alarm went off, he popped out and could see no reason for it to have activated. He went to lock it and the central locking did not work from the key (to open or lock) so he locked it manually. The next morning (Tuesday) he went out to drive it to work and again the central locking didn't work from the key, so he opened it manually, put the key in to start it and noticed the steering wheel didn't go to its pre-set, turn the ignition and absolutely nothing, not even any dash lights, for some reason the Battery seems to have gone flat, but it looks like an old Battery in fairness to it. I popped over and stuck a set of jump leads between my car and his, he stuck his keys in and the steering wheel went to its pre-set position, took the keys out and left my engine running with the jump leads on to his for about 10 minutes. Left the jump leads in place with my car running and tried to start his up. His GS300 turns over with no problems, good healthy turn over but it will not start, so we left it. Looked on Google and read you need to turn the key to the ACC position for 15 seconds, returned Wednesday morning and tried that, still turning over great with the jump leads on but still wont start. Asked for advice on the Lexus Facebook Group, one person said that it takes 15 minutes to perform the reset procedure not 15 Seconds, no other suggestions. Went back on Thursday morning, put jump leads on, my engine running, etc, turned the key to ACC position, left it there for 15 minutes, then tried to start it, engine turns over great but still wont start. Today we disconnected the Battery for 5 minutes then re connected it back up, put the jump leads on, my engine running, etc, turned the key into ACC Position for 15 minutes, then tried to start it, engine still turns over great but will not start. Throughout this the red LED in the Car Symbol with the Key Symbol has been flashing, I believe this is to say that the immobiliser is active, but I could be wrong.

Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be, any advice will be greatly appreciated

Kind Regards

Tom

Hi Tom and welcome to the LOC.

I had the exact same problem with my GS300, you are almost there.

Put the ignition key into the Ignition position, leave it 8 minutes, remove the key, then reinsert the key.

At this point the security light should go out and the engine should start.

Hi David.

They never came back to tell us.

Try Steve's solution. I have a GS300 and can confirm they're a bugger to get going again after a flat or replacement Battery.

Which is always such a shame.

A quick update helps everyone, now and in the future, often regardless of model...
