Just got it,love it👍👍

I drove back from the garage and it’s a lovely drive, only problem was that there was so much to look at inside and fiddle about with and rice at the same time.

don’t miss the gears at all

they have gave me 30 days to decide if I want the smart protect which starts at £305-£509 and the alloy wheel and tyre insurance £434 and GAP insurance at £295-£430

looking at nearly £1500

anyone else have any of those?

Look for GAP cover elsewhere. I got mine from ALA for less than half that.

I didn’t take alloy wheel cover and then dinged one of them but this doesn’t go how you would perhaps think (oh bet he regrets not having the cover). I’m a stickler for things being right/perfect so I tried the best rated wheel repair place within 50 miles and you know what? The grey colour on the f sport is really difficult to match. The repairer was honest enough to say they wouldn’t be able to do it. The dealer body shop (who will probably have the paint codes) were honest and said they could get close but might have to do both wheels on that side to make it look right. In the end I bought a replacement wheel, not something a smart repair insurance policy would cover. In fact no one I approached would even contemplate a smart repair on it, full strip and respray/powercoat or replacement only.

Ok so you think it’s a good idea to get the wheel cover?

I think I’d be asking whoever is selling it if they are confident they could do a repair if you claimed. Based on my experience it would have been useless but things might have moved on or repairers in your area may have the right technique that mine don’t.

Whether or not to take it is personal choice. A replacement wheel is about £360 so the price you have been quoted is about the same as one new tyre and wheel.

isn't the dealer generous giving you 30 days to decide in the hope they will

make some more commission from upselling these products to you

the extra you will be paying at the dealer will be to cover the commission

for the sales person , have a look at this link gap insurance from £93

they also cover all the other items the dealer offered you

If the traction battery were ever to go flat then you'd have to call out the dealer or some other specialist who has the knowledge and the equipment to deal with it - at 288v, it's not something the AA, RAC or other breakdown service is equipped to deal with.

Agree with Herbie, but just a word of reassurance on the nickel-metal-hydride traction Battery. The similar Battery on our 15 year old Prius has never gone flat, and still performs pretty much like new, holding its charge for extended periods of non-use. It's probably the very last thing to worry about on the car. Hope you enjoy the Lexus ownership experience.

You'll love owning a Lexus! In terms of the smart protect paint protection the dealer is offering. I'd find out how much a proper car detailer would charge to apply a paint protection product before excepting the dealership offer. As the dealership may not apply the protection properly and you may get problems later. All they are wanting is extra commission.

the dealership wont be the ones applying the paint protection it will for sure be passed to a 3rd party,

lexus dont have any body repair centres of their own and always use a 3rd party lexus approved centre

for any remedial work to be carried out so all you will be doing if you pay lexus is giving them money for nothing.

Just a quick question about the Battery, when I’ve been staring up the car doing brake, power button and it goes onto ready.

there as been two occasions where it’s started like a normal car and not in the really quite Battery mode

whats that reason?

I think it depends on the charge in the traction Battery and how warm the engine is. So you will find that say, for example, first thing in the morning the engine will fire up to warm it up. Also if the charge on the traction Battery is low the engine will start to give it charge.

Also, if the charge is low you can never engage EV mode. It is interesting to have the car running on the drive first thing in the morning then after about 10 minutes or so suddenly as if by magic, stop. So it all depends on engine temp and Battery charge.

the engine will start straight away if the outside temp is cold, traction Battery is low on charge

but one reason that many dont think about is the cabin temperature,

when you start the car in the morning if you have left the cabin temp at 22° from the day before

your car will know to achieve the cabin temperature you want the engine has to be running to heat the

coolant water up enough to provide you with your selected temperature, so if you dont want

the engine to start 1st thing lower the cabin temperature to 16° then on most starts the engine will stay off

for a while.

Jon,Mark (200h) makes a good point below re cabin temperature, but do try to find the time to read through the entire Handbook as it is a mine of information.

Mark (200h) - yep agree with you on that mate! However, sometimes to save cost I know some individual dealerships (whatever the franchise group/brand), may get a staff member to apply the protection coat to save cost and keep for themselves. The good honest ones, will use a 3rd party local to that dealership.

Jon (JPG) like with anything - shop around for products and services regarding car stuff. Do your research online and look at good YouTube vids for reviews/product tests also forums like LOC!!!

Once done make your choice.

One good channel on detailing I have got into since lockdown to help me in my product choices on my CT is the Forensic detailing Channel on YouTube. The guy who does it Jon is brill! Very informative but a fun channel at the same time. Also the Car Cleaning Guru is another one I watch too!

Good luck in your hunting Jon!

Got an email from Lexus Lincoln about their service plan, the quote was £1,132 for 2 full services and a intermediate 😬

is that correct? Just seems a little steep and doesn’t say anything about the Battery health check.

Bit steep. Current servicing prices are here: https://www.lexus.co.uk/owners/servicing-and-maintenance/vehicle-service/#pricing

Hybrid system check is part of the servicing by dealers when following the Lexus schedule. So is wheel alignment on the majors, mine was slightly out on one corner so my dealer kindly sorted that FOC last week.

Hang on. If your car is fairly new the first 3 services should be 2 intermediates and 1 full unless it has already had the 10k?

They have said two full and one intermediate, and no its no where near 10k

Tell them they need to change it to 2 minor and 1 major.  However I would potentially go to another dealer, the charge is over just paying for the services ad-hoc - normally you don't get a discount but never heard of a dealer trying to charge more.

All services come with a hybrid health check, they wouldn't necessarily mention it.

I fully agree with what Colin says here but make sure to use another dealer group. If one dealership in the group is trying to charge more then no doubt the others will too - it may be a group-wide policy.

I looked at these from Lexus and independant providers last time I changed car and what put me off was saying if I made a claim I should inform my insurance provider as courtesy. Last thing I want is annualy policy going up because I've had a little dent fixed free of charge so didn't bother. Am I being over cautious?
