Morning all, has anyone recently done this? Just wondering on cost.
I’d normally ask ask for cheaper methods but from by research I’m thinking it’s a dealer job.

i’m in the process of putting a towbar on to, looking around £500 at a specialist.

If your SatNav is the same as my 2011 (USB) then I upgraded mine when I bought my car at the end of 2017 taking it from the original 2011 maps/software to the 2017 ones.

It took around 2 and half to 3 hours including a free Hybrid check and cost £160 from RMB Teesside.

There has been mention of dealers in the south charging over £300 for it though so pick your dealer wisely.

Thanks, £160 with a hybrid check is a bargain. Is that advertised anywhere? Just in case my Lexus says it’s more and doesn’t include the hybrid check.
thanks

That was two year ago... if you want an up-to-date price from them give them a ring to compare with those near you.

https://www.rmbauto.co.uk/lexus/

They did not tell me about the Hybrid check until I got there and asked if I wanted it doing free of charge if I was not in a hurry.. the upgrade itself was over 2 hours so I just said to ge ahead, put my mind at rest after just buying the car anyway.

I have used RMB since for work and parts and always been friendly and reasonable.. they have their own Toyota dealership next-door with a shared parts department.

Buy a new TT or Garmin with lifetime updates.  Probably cheaper than updating the built in one.

Ye your probably right but I like using the car nav, I’ve already got a dash cam and speed camera gadget so don’t want anymore.

Disgusting isn’t it, no loyalty here. I’ve been dealing with a particular staff member of staff over the years who sorted a decent price for me but she’s left.

Ridiculous pricing!

From reading other posts on this forum I know that Witter and Westfalia make towbars for the Gen 3 RX and maybe others do too, so it should be fairly easy to get a more reasonable price for either supply only and get your local garage to fit, or supply and fit.

As for the satnav update, that too is an utterly crazy price! I wouldn't care if it was useful and worth having but it's clunky, counter-intutive, slow and can't do full post codes, to name just a few of its faults.

I use Waze on my phone - free maps, free map updates, free speed camera alerts and the ability to update information 'on the fly'. If any Waze user comes across a road problem such as an accident or a breakdown or even a herd of escaped cows, they can upload a warning to Waze HQ and maps will be updated within two or three minutes so that other Waze users are alerted to the problem:

Cant do full post codes??

Mine definitely does full post codes and is a lot quicker to reroute you if you take a wrong turn then the TomTom I used to have before getting the Lexus.

For tow bars for the Gen3 there are plenty that do them (PFJones, etc) for around £350 to £500 but not for the Gen4.

Thanks mate, ye i'm averaging around the £500 mark with a witter/westfalia fitted. I won't bother with the nav update at that price.

That’s not to bad Ken, the cheapest I was getting it was just under £450.

i decided against the idea and bought a Saris Bones EX 3 Bike Rack instead for £180, sold the rack I bought for £70 for £100 so all in its £210 instead. 👍🏻
