Ok so having changed my inverter i am wondering do any of u guys know if old ones be reconditioned

Posted

I'd have thought if it were viable then they would offer an exchange service?

Posted

Im just wondering as the guy who replaced it for me rang me to see if he could have the old one as he was doing some research

I would imagine that, just like any other electronics, they should be repairable but access to spares and schematic diagrams may be the problem.

so can you tell us the price you had to pay for yours please ....  not to include the exchange

Thanks

The inverter contains other items apart from the actual drive system for the car. It also contains "as separate circuit boards" the DC to DC converter to charge the 12 volt Battery, the inverter drive for the AC compressor motor, and the buck boost converter that boosts the Battery voltage from 288 volts to 650 volts. On there own these would be useful items to keep in stock to repair other faulty units.
It is also possible that just one faulty FET " a type of high current transistor" would be a likely cause of breakdown of which there are many in the invert. Good one's could be removed to repair another inverter.

this equates to slightly under the full Lexus Main Dealer hourly rate too incl the VAT

Yes, I know, that's why I was agog with shock - you don't expect any other mechanic/garage to charge main dealer rates.

I know i was a bit shocked at the price but just relieved the car was fixed, i couldnt find any other hybrid specialists so im thinking maybee keep this guy on side, i have messaged him letting him know if he wants the inverter he owes me a good rate if i need another job doing

I think it is a case of supply and demand. He can clearly get away with those rates for that reason. If the faulty inverter is of no value to you, I think you have made  a sensible decision. Cast your bread on the water !!! 😜. Good luck, Cheers, Roger
