Hi all.

I appreciate it's been mentioned before, but I purchased a replacement OSF backing plate for my RX from eBay, for a fraction of the cost vs Lexus and planned to get my specialist to fit it, but now they are unable to do so(insurance won't permit it).

New plan is to do it myself.

Being the front, I believe it is less involved than the rear (no parking brake shoe).

Has anybody got experience of doing it or could provide advice?

Cheers

That seems unbelievable - any idea why?

I believe they have changed premises and the new insurance company has stopped them fitting customer supplied parts.

They were not local, but I do not appear to have a toyota specialist near me.

I had the wheel, disc and caliper off today to take a look. It is obviously a hub off job. The screws securing the shield to the hub are in a bad way, but the shield itself is still secure.

The question is, do I buy a puller and a suitable socket to get the hub off, or just suck up the labour cost when garages open again?

I only paid £43 for the genuine Toyota part, so I'm quids in already.

Depends on the cost of the tools and how often you'd use them against the labour costs.

I notice that you talk of a "Toyota specialist" which sort of implies a labour charge less than a main dealer but higher than a non-specialist garage. It's the sort of job that doesn't need a specialist; a bread-and-butter job for any decent mechanic worth his salt, so labour may not be too bad at all.

You are of course right re non specialist job, however I may get a couple of other things looked at.

Occasionally I get a knock from NSF suspension and my AC does not work. Unfortunately it's not a recharge job, it's a leak or other failure.

You don't say which version of RX you have but if it's a hybrid, that is definitely a good case to go to a proper aircon specialist rather than a mechanical garage.

EDIT: Haha, the heading of your original post says it all, an RX300. I think this lockdown is messing with my head
