Ive got to the point where I need to connect a laptop to my car so I can change some settings, I know that I can buy a Vci lead on eBay, however there are so many of them and so many different versions.

Calling on other peoples experience here, what's the best/latest reliable version to get? if it makes a difference my car is a 2014.

Will it run on Win10 or am I stuck with Win7/XP?

I will be connecting to Lexus/Toyota rather than using pirated software that sometimes comes with the Lead, I know it costs money per hour etc but I know its a reliable connection rather than some dodgy software.

Thanks in advance

I'm assuming you have ruled out the official €690 one 😉

Yes, I am looking at the ones on eBay and amazon, there are V12/13/14, I don't want the latest if it isn't reliable, but at the same time I don't want an older version if it won't connect to my IS or doesn't allow me to customise what I want

It's not Techstream that's the problem, it's the cable drivers.

I've got it working on Windows 10 64-bit but I admit it was a battle and took about two hours of messing about before the car would talk to the laptop, so it can be done.

However, the quickest and perhaps easiest way is to install Oracle's VirtualBox (https://www.virtualbox.org/) on your laptop and then install a copy of either Windows 7 32-bit or even Windows XP in that and run Techstream from in there, in which case it doesn't matter which version of the drivers you have.

Using proper drivers you can run TS with mini-vci cable under win10 without problems.

32-bit, yes, but 64-bit is quite tricky and takes a fair bit of fiddling. It took me over two hours of perseverence but I eventually got it working so yes, it can be done as I said above, but not exactly "without problems".

I had a lot of trouble and never managed to get Techstream to write to the car (W10 64 bit). However, there were no problems with reading data.

I went down your suggested route and downloaded the VM and win7 32 bit
Just waiting for the lead to arrive, hopefully that will go smoother than setting up a shared folder [emoji2959]
