A few months ago one of the members on here took their RX400h to Halfords for a re-gas of the AC and they just used one of the small cans they stock on the shelves rather than a proper machine. It caused all sorts of problems and the topic ran to about 6 or 7 pages if I remember correctly - I've had too much beer since then so things are a bit hazy and you should look it up for yourselves if anyone's interested in the whole sorry saga.

My point illustrated perfectly!

This is the stuff I learn that I am glad to learn, but wish I didn't know. It scares me to death that it's so easy to damage things. I don't use main dealers for servicing and wonder how commonplace knowledge like this is. Probably not very.

Hmm.... you could be right but as long as you use trusted garages or specialists then it should be alright, or at least you minimise the risk of something going wrong.

For instance, I wouldn't even trust Halfords to change a wiper blade or a bulb, let alone do something with the aircon, and for a hybrid I would never go anywhere except a proper aircon specialist. By the same token I would probably use a proper auto electrician for electrical troubles, rather than a mechanical garage.

Agreed! But would even a specialist know this? I'm not sure! The way it's been explained, it sounds very specialist knowledge, limited to a small portion of all the cars out there!

Hello John

I'm just catching up with this thread, so thanks for your advice on the Solar Charger, which is still in transit to me, so I'll see if it does help when it manages to get here. The thread has developed into an informative one, maybe the answer is to take it out for an occasional run to a local spot where we can go walking, which I believe is allowed.

Regards

Peter

Absolutely. Very sophisticated.

Just not sure it's using a neural network in its usual meaning.

I agree with you two guys on this. My 2007 car has incident radiation i.e. sunlight, sensors. The algorithm may have improved since 2007 but neural network? We should be grateful the words "turbo" and "laser" have not been used.
