Hi Guys

has anyone had their brake discs skimmed before?

Normally I just change my discs

I am getting some vibration when gently braking and not when I brake with a little more force... maybe its time to get my angle grinder out lol

I always look at a service sideways when they dont put any prices on any websites It makes the practice look a little shady for something thats meant to take 4 mins per disc

Someone told me it costs more than new discs to have them skimmed but he does speak much nonsense so it may not be true!  I've just started to get it as well but I'm guessing most LS owners do at some point.

I thought you would only think of skimming your brake discs if they were too expensive to replace brand new as is the case with some Porsche's,Ferrari,Lamborghinis etc and therefore skimming becomes a cheaper option

I have had discs on many occasions on many different cars with a 100% success rate. However I try to find a local machine shop that has a lathe to carry out the work. This is usually done on a cash in hand basis typically costing £20 for a pair of discs.
I now have a friend that has a lathe so I can do them myself. Care must be taken that the discs to be machined are not cracked, and are above the minimum stated thickness after machining. Again however discs machined under the minimum thickness is not an MOT failure.

never for me in 20 years and about 250k miles driving my Lss'  ........  Mk1 and Mk2 and now my Mk3 for 100+k miles ..........  nearly 9 years

For me I guess it's depended on the quality of the servicing by my indy .....  he's replaced discs from time to time but that's been a very rare occurrence

I've had it on the 6 various LS's I've owned over the years but it's easy peasy to rectify it, assuming it's the discs and not something else.
