Hi all,

After a gap of 10 years, I'm on my second SC430 - a 2003 model. I bought it with after-market alloys and the TPMS warning light was lit up - a solid yellow light - which I can live with - I've seen the video on YouTube to simply disengage the system but I didn't bother as it just got noted as an advisory  (the only one) when the car passed its MOT. I had the car garaged through winter during which time the Battery went flat - recharged the Battery - start the car and now the TMPS warning light flashes and beeps every couple of minutes which is annoying - so now I'm thinking maybe I'll just do the fix in the video but before I do, a couple of questions. 1) If the system is disengaged as it's a pre legislation model does it make any difference when you take the car for MOT // 2) I don't mind the yellow light being on, is there a way to restore it to that state? My OBD scanner doesn't read any fault so that's no good to me. In general what are you people with models of a similar age with after market alloys doing about TPMS?

Thanks in advance for any advice - I live near Epsom in Surrey so if there's an independent Lexus specialist in the area anyone knows of who can be recommended for future work this would be useful - car is booked into Croydon Lexus for the airbag recall fix and no doubt they will propose a £££££ solution for the TPMS issue.

Hi Marco,

 

I took mine in for the airbag recall a week ago and the dealer (Lexus Reading) noted the TPMS was inoperative because I have aftermarket wheels - apparently it's not an MOT issue which is supported by my car having passed the MOT as it is. Mine is a 2006 model and the light does not come on - not sure how it was disabled though. Hope that helps.

Hi

My SC 430 was in for the airbag recall and the fitter reported the plug behind the dash had been disconnected from the system, so no warning light!

Not that I have any sensors on my wheels....

Yes it's as simple as that and not an MOT failure. Some of the cheap after-market TPMS systems are worth considering. The sensors replace the dust-caps and send a signal to a fairly discrete pressure monitor.
