I read about a forthcoming low pressure fuel pump recall in America but not before March.Seems odd to announce it and then say we cannot fix it yet. The article stated it affected a number of Lexus and Toyota models built in 2018.Mine would fit that timescale.

Wendle, have you just received the recall on your RCF?

The RC-F fuel pump re call was 3 years ago, considering the RC-F and LC engine are the same i would have thought that what ever they did for the RC-F would have already been changed on the LC, unless they are going to re call the RC-F again

I know they have to take the wheel of and the inner wing panel, plus panelling in the boot.

This is interesting as the fuel filler is located quite a way forward and in front of the boot interior liner.

Regarding the fuel pump recall, I checked when the RC-F recall was announced and my V8 was a later version than the ones affected. Of course, this might be a new recall...

This is a new recall, although the article was from an American publication and only referred to US cars.It is also discussed on the US forum for LC owners.

Cannot imagine the US engines are different to UK cars so presumably it will apply here.

Re the fuel flap. The cynic in me wonders if dealers are stripping more trim in different areas as they have not had this issue before and a Technical Service Bulletin has not been issued to guide them.

The previous recall was for the two high pressure fuel pumps, not the low pressure pump.

The new recall is for the low pressure pump, which is in the fuel tank, the F cars use a different pump compared to the LC which uses a more common part used across quite a few different petrol models - hence this is quite a big recall stateside.

@ColinBarber Thanks for the information about the fuel pumps.

My car was registered in Feb 18 and was a factory order in August 2017 (i.e. built in 2017). I will have to wait and see if I am affected.

P.S. To Administrators - this this thread contains interesting information about various subjects, it may be useful to split these out with thread names which aid searching.

So, Lexus Hedge End called to say that they need another part to complete the Fuel filler flap update. Unfortunately, this is on back-order (probably due to all the LC owners wanting this done now) and they can't tell me an exact date to finish the work. As they have stripped out the back seat area of the car (as per Wendle's note), I have decided to leave it with them for now and keep their nice UX to toodle round in. I will keep you posted.

The UX is really quite nice so... ho hum.

Sorry to hear of the delay.Makes me even more nervous to get mine done if it takes so much stripping and replacing parts.

Would have hoped they could have given some idea of timescale.

Posted

Worrying that they didn't know they needed that part before starting the job?

Or is it they have to reorder a part, erm, "modified" during assembly?

Having followed this site for some time I decided to join and hopefully interact with other owners.

I purchased my white 500 V8 towards the end of last year after spending some while checking out the cars available at Lexus main dealers. Some have been on sale for quite a while and there were a couple I just missed as they sold as soon as they became available.

I particularly wanted either a Sport or Sport + as I actually like the wheels and wanted the carbon roof and sports seats. My car had covered about 4K miles and was just under a year old.

prior to buying I also borrowed a hybrid version and whilst I enjoyed it,the V8 was always going to be the one.I traded my BMW M2 Competition to get this car which is a very different style of performance .The outright effortless power of the Lexus is preferable to me at this stage.

I suspect that as my car was registered after September 2018,it must have the dreaded exhaust emissions filter fitted as whilst it sounds great,I don’t think it is as loud as some of the videos on YouTube portray.Any other people experienced this?

One issue I have experienced is the sticking fuel flap.I thought this was only the initial batch of cars in 2017,but I do have this sometimes. It may be that the hinge is affected by the colder weather as it was OK when I first got it.

I would be interested to hear if many of the owners who got their cars when released are still owners. The forum appears to have been pretty quiet in recent weeks.

Best regards,

A J.

Welcome AJ, I’m quite new to this forum too, and Lexus ownership having bought a Sport+ in November.

Like you, I trawled the network before finding the right one. Lexus Sheffield had a lovely white with rose one but it was the standard spec. Finally settled on the one from Lexus Canterbury, red sport+ with only 3k on the clock.
Been a BMW owner for many years and nearly bought an 850 when hey cane out. So glad I didn’t, this LC is amazing!!!

I’m in Lincoln so if you fancy a get together, give me a shout.

Hi Mark,

Great to hear from an LC owner not far from me. I am in the Wolds quite near Horncastle so it would be good to meet up sometime. With friends I regularly visit Cadwell Park ,which is up the road, just to watch track days and get coffee etc.

The only LC I have seen in our county are the white and red demos from Lincoln and a yellow one with a distinctive plate which I assume is the Hull demo.

We have had a number of BMW and until last year used Soper in Lincoln but our last 3 in the family have come from Marshall’s in Grimsby.Like you,I considered the 850 but fell for the LC. Even in Hybrid form I liked it but the V8 is just glorious.

The discounting from BMW is crazy and makes a mockery of list prices.

Not sure which dealer to use for servicing and possible warranty work.Lincoln is the nearest but seems quite small.Have you been to them yet?

Hoping to see more content on this forum and as I keep saying, cannot understand why these cars are not bigger sellers when compared to rivals. They are amazing as you say!

Hi AJ,

Yes, likewise, I’m based just on the north side of Lincoln and regularly go to Cadwell Park. In fact I’m a volunteer marshal there in race season.
Like you, I’ve seen the white demo at Lincoln and the yellow one at Hull. Just recently Lincoln had a red hybrid too.

The only one I’ve seen on the road was a silver hybrid in Gainsborough.
i agree, it’s amazing there aren’t more. I guess most people just like to conform.

i struggled with the BMW pricing policy, seems like a lottery. I also just got tired of tech for tech sake - why on earth do we need five ways to change the radio volume...

Re servicing, I know the crew at Lincoln very well, for me, the epitome of Lexus service.
i know the dealer principle, James, very well so if you would like an intro let me know.

Like you, my filler flap sticks, I just pop it open at home to loosen it before going to fill up - saves embarrassment.
i also wiped the mechanism with paper towel impregnated with fine oil. Seems to be ok at the moment.

is your LC your daily driver?

Posted

Hi Mark,

Good to get feedback on Lexus Lincoln. I did borrow their red hybrid for 3 days when it was brand new and they tried to get the red V8 from their Cheltenham branch but wouldn’t budge on deal. They offered me the hybrid at a very reasonable price but wanted an instant decision.I really wanted a V8.

We must meet up soon and great to hear you marshall at Cadwell. Its such a good venue to just drop in for lunch and a wander around the pits on track days.I have a good friend who is a motor trader and Porsche specialist in Lincoln and through him have met up with a number of like minded specialist car owners.

We have a BMW M140i Shadow as a main daily plus a little Mazda AWD.

The 140 is an incredible car with blistering performance yet crazy good mpg.It was one of the reasons I sold the M2 Competition which I factory ordered a year before,as in some ways they were too similar. The LC is on another level in all respects.

Malcolm,

Has the dealer given any date for the parts to arrive?

Posted

Yes, 3rd March but they hope it will come forward. Not too good but there is nothing that can be done in view of the demand for fuel flap parts.

Hi

You say "I would be interested to hear if many of the owners who got their cars when released are still owners.". I still have mine. Structrural blue. Fuel flap gave me a problem just before the first service. I mentioned it and it never happened again. My biggest irritation (better nightmare) has been getting some parking damage repaired and the utter uselessness of Lexus Leeds in this matter.

I trust you"ll enjoy it.

Thanks Ben.

Sorry to hear about the body repair. Your thread on the issue was a couple of months back.Hopefully it is now completed.

I hope you are back enjoying your car.

Hi malcolmw,

Any news on your repair yet?

Posted

I was told today that the car will be ready on Friday afternoon. We will see.

I got the car back this evening but it is raining and I haven't had a chance to check out the flap. I did try it at the dealers and, although it opened it didn't exactly spring out. I will report back tomorrow - if the rain stops.

Posted

Certainly hope it’s a great improvement on the original.

Did your dealer explain exactly which trim etc had to be removed.

Thankyou,

A J.

Well, the rain has just let up so I went out to have a careful look at the car.

The mechanism has definitely been replaced as the new one looks different to the old version. On pressing the release button, the flap does open but only slightly. You have to pull it open with your finger but it does seem to work like this every time. The new design still relies on the flap moulding sliding into the car housing to align the flap and this is still a little tight although a lot better than before. I think a little bit of Vaseline will help when everything dries off. The spring force opening the flap seems a lot more than previously.

Regarding the trim removal, they clearly did something in the boot as my tray (non Lexus item) was moved. They told me that the rear seat area had been removed but this looks fine and there are no rattles so far. They didn't vacuum the rear footwells after they had been in the car but this is not a big deal.

So, OK thus far.

BTW AJ, have you seen this previous thread:

Thanks Malcolm for the detailed update.Hopefully the new design will continue to work.I am surprised the flap doesn’t ping out with more force.Since spraying my hinge ,the flap has operated on most occasions and opened about 2 inches.

I had seen the earlier thread you detailed and have wondered if a comment therein is correct in as much as the temperature may play a part as mine worked fine when I got the car in October but played up in late November.Still think a lack of forceful spring is the reason and let’s hope the new one has eliminated that.

Will certainly try to establish if the dealer I use for this work knows exactly how to do the work as I don’t want all the seats and trim ripped out because they are learning on the job.

What was your view on the NX having had it longer than you may have wanted.

heya. ive had mine for about 6 months now. Welcome!

ha, just been reading the last page, my fuel filler didnt work last weekend! the first time for me. (and a bit of a panic)... espcially as i click it drivers side, walk around, walk back, click, walk back.. you see where this is going!
all the while, the car behind me is thinking 'cor, nice car mate, but do you want your husband to help you fill up!!'' lol.

to get it open, it took one person holding down the button, while another leveraged his fingers under the flap. painful (socially).

also - jesus the runflats / Pilot Sports are like ice skates under 5degrees! i did some hard driving at the weekend. got out the car and put my hand on the tyre, stone cold! no wonder it doesnt grip. a nice set of pirelli pzeros i had on my ftype were warm to the touch just going to the corner shop.
