I was surprised but my 2002 LS430 is exempt. Maybe the engine and cat are so well made it is super clean.

At every MOT it seems to put out fresh airish.

Regarding your tax, It's interesting to learn that your celsior costs £265 to tax. I wonder why my 2003 LS costs me £345 in annual tax? It's really strange.

The Lexus brand including the ls400 as met emission criteria of the State of Califoria since its inception and that criteria is the highest in the world a lot of the vehicles built in europe and sold in Britain during the 80's and nineties would not have met the criteria and even some that were built in the 2000's would not.

I once had a ignorant neighbour accuse me of owning a highly polluting car until I pointed out that is 1.6 litre kia was a bigger pollution emitter than my mark1  4 litre Lexus.

Aren't imports always £265? Something like that I'm sure. I know that when I browse 8s and 6s and look at post-06 cars that would be normally be £550+ the Jap imports are £265 eg post-06 XC90 with the Yamaha V8.

Some people are idiots. My dad once had someone having a go about the number of vehicles he had. My dad replied "But I don't drive them all at once".

Wasn't sure I understood this thread, but now I do, and seemingly my 2001 LS430 is exempt.

No ULEZ charge due for this vehicle

This vehicle meets the emission standards for ULEZ so you don't have to pay this charge when driving within the zone.

Per my other post today, just need to get the MOT centre to agree!

Unless they develop a decent public transport system and/or workable Park and Ride as air quality is now a very serious issue. Traffic congestion is no longer fun, which will eventually affect out of town retail parks. Try going to Cheshire Oaks, or more importantly try leaving Cheshire Oaks.

Spot on Roger.I avoid Cheshire Oaks like the plague. I do all of my shopping on line.

All EU supplied Lexus LS430s are ULEZ Exempt as they are all EURO-4 compliant and certified.
If you apply for a CritAir certificate for France or for the LEZ-Brussels both are given on the basis that the car is EURO-4.
Toyota Celsior 430s are not as they are imports from outside the EU.

For the Celsior 430s you may be able to get a certificate of conformity from Toyota in Japan that states the vehicles emissions with which you could apply for ULEZ exemption.
I'm told by a friend who had a 2002 BMW R1150RT that it's a bit of a ball-ache to do though and he only had to get his certificate from BMW.

And there-in lies the clue as to why Antwerp can ban cars, and yet people can get into town, because of an integrated transport planning policy. Antwerp is a well bustling place with more Teslas than you can shake a stick at.

Integrated Transport is not a phrase thah can be applied to just about the whole of the UK, In London there is some form of integration (and a shed load of UK taxpayers money being thrown at improving transport).

We totally need to work out how to use the car less, as whenever I go into a major UK city I come back with my shirt collars nicely black and my snot (sorry) as black as you like.

Maybe it will make out of town centers more congested, but that would probably drive the relevant authority to work out how to tax the use of those roads to the detriment of the shoppers wallet. (Personally I avoid out of town shopping - or any shopping - unless my wife ties me up bundle me in a sack and drags me along)

Still the chances of any UK government over the next 25 years getting transport sorted are pretty thin based on previous experience of all the hot air generated in the House of Commons since I started working 40 years ago when driving a company car into the middle of London in  the rush hour was not a problem.

It's why I avoided the Celsior when I was looking for my LS. I spent nearly 2 hours trying to find an insurance site that listed the Celsior.
Even those that claim to specialise in Imports didn't have it.

As for London, I have in the past driven in, but that was when I worked on the Isle of Dogs.
Most of the time I rode my motorcycle there as public transport took too long and involved lots of walking in the pouring rain.
These days I go into "The Stink" only when absolutely necessary as I hate crowds and noise.

I grew up in London, left when I was 29 and I've no desire to go back, apart from work very occasionally. I did find the insurance easy with my Celsior with the recommended company supplied by the seller.  It costs a bit more than a non import (£295) but with a low excess, and surprisingly, no increase this year!
