Hello

Recently serviced the LS430 changed the engine oil and oil filter only.

I noticed that the mechanic added too much engine oil which was slightly above the second notch on the dip stick. Is this a problem?

This morning the engine light comes on. Do you recon its related to the level of engine oil?

Should I ask the mechanic to drain some of it?

Btw the car is in LPG and has had no issues previously save for the wheel hub.

Thanks

Hi Adam, Engine Oil should not exceed the max line on the dipstick. Ask the mechanic to drain some pronto.

Damn, I think I've done around 1k miles like this.

I hope it hasn't damaged anything

Excess of oil can lead to a build up of pressure.

It can also ruin the CATs

The engine light is on, would suggest something's amiss?

An OBD2 reader from eBay should diagnose the majority of problems. I paid about £4 for mine and there are a variety of free apps that work on your phone.  For basics and a quick diagnosis you can't beat it. Especially as people say "That's just because of the LPG". I was told that and it turned out to be one of the O2 sensors.

On the oil, if it's just a fraction over, I imagine it's probably still within tolerance of the engine, but a diagnosis will confirm.

Just drove home and now there's no engine light on.

It's got a mind of its own

It does suggest that you may have the start of a CAT issue as I reported a while back.

I thought for me it related to my Battery change, but perhaps like your oil change, it was just a coincidence.

For me the light came on then off a number of times, eventually staying on permanently and the error code translated using my cheap OBD2 reader confirmed the issue was the exhaust CAT.

My MOT is due end March 2020, so I will need to do something about this - seeing Pipecraft Exhaust in Basildon coincidentally tomorrow, so will give you an idea of cost soon should you suffer the same.
