Hi ,

went to look at a Lexus is 250 yesterday, I actually thought I actually thought I had bought the car pending the results of the Lexus going through an mot .

Long story short , the guy isn't sure if he wants my merc in px now .

But anyway , I had a little drive, as you do , and thought the car was a tad underpowered for a 2.5 petrol .

is this normal for these things ?

I had heard them called a sheep in wolfs clothing on youtube.

Not overly bothered about that really just looking for any advice on the cars in general , mpg , etc

                                                                                                   Cheers ,

the smoothness of a Lexus makes it feel as if you ain't going fast when you actually are. 70 mph on my current and previous Lexus's feels like i'm doing 40 mph which model of merc do you currently have? obviously, the IS250 will feel under powered if your merc is a more powerful model. engine and gearbox are bullet proof but make sure is has had a decent service history.. parts like O2 sensors, radiator, and exhaust will start getting tired and will need changing so look out for those. they also chain driven engines so don't require cambelt change

@Zuke The first time you drive one the very non-linear throttle response in normal mode might lead you to that conclusion.

There's a switch to the left of the steering column to select 'ECT/PWR' mode which appears to remove some of the throttle non-linearity. Mine lives in 'ECT/PWR' mode permanently, well unless it snows when it's other position of the switch 'Snow' which is a low torque mode.

Wait until it's warmed up properly and let it have some revs and it's quite quick enough.

+1 if you put it in PWR mode, you can lose your license as fast as you like!

Thanks for the replies chaps ! much appreciated .

I bought the car today ! 😂

Picking it up on Sunday .

There are a few paint issues , like the front bumper , nothing major .

Any ideas as to m,p,g ??

The Merc was a C180 Kompressor 6 speed manual which to be fair has been, and really still is a good car.

Just fancied a change , always liked the lexus .

Looking muchly forward to owning it and getting advice from here !!

My 2007 250 ( which doesn't get used as much as I'd like) averages about 35 mpg General but on a recent run ( Bristol to Plymouth ) got a Tank average of 41mpg , Not fantastic but I'd didn't exactly but it for its frugality! But for Everything else it offers!!! You want luxury, comfort & toys then you gotta expect to pay!
