My mechanic doesn't have the necessary size puller to replace a Rear Hub bush like the one in the below Ad which is right for my Car.  (Last one and I'm tempted to buy it in case the offside needs replacing at some stage, as well.

I've looked at Pullers on eBay and not clear as to if the right size is avaiable in a kit. Most seem to be for BMW which may be correct but ??

Wondering if a Member may have the necessary tool to do this job and would lend it to me (at my expense in it being posted, signed for, etc) and I'd return it as soon as the job has been rescheduled and done.  Or, if anyone knows exactly which diameter tube/kit is the right one, and where it may be purchased I'd appreciate the info.  This is a diagram of the part.  My Vernier gauge (if I read it correctly suggest that the Bush is 38.1mm Diameter and so a tube 38mm would be the exact fit for extraction with the other necessary parts.

Instead of a puller look at bush press kits, which are plentiful and relatively cheap on the likes of Amazon/eBay - they work surprisingly well too.  

As you know the diameter of the bush then just order a bush kit that has inserts on/around that size.

Heck even a few old sockets and a threaded bar would work.  In fact I'm surprised your garage hasn't already done this but maybe they are all fitters rather than mechanics?

Did I read somewhere the right tool from Lexus would cost $680. 

Unfortunately, there is not the space to "push" the Bush through and so it can only be extracted by pulling. 

I looked at my Socket but they are too long in length and the internal pattern is likely to damage the rubber, even if cut down, which would need be precise. Also a square 1/2 inch hole is not what is needed for the back plate, bearings and nut.

Daresay someone on the forum has tackled this problem, hence the enquiry.

My mechanic I have trusted on this car and my Mercedes over the past twelve years  and he does have pullers, just not the correct size for the Lexus. He has changed the Cambelt, changed the Fuel filter, gearbox filter, UCA's and other parts to date.

I prefer to find the item for him as he has a habit of not billing me for his work - even when pressed.  Likes the Car!

Hmmm is space is that tight, then can it not be cut out?

I suspect it will be quite a fiddly job and care needed not to damage the hub.

I've found some garages prefer cutting out old bushes vs pressing them out.

I made a bush extractor for the removal of the trailing arm bushes from a piece of threaded rod and several washers and three nuts. There is a pic of it in the archives under trailing arm bush removal or renewal .

I have now dug out the archive and it was the tool made for extracting the hub bush,  it is made from I think either a short piece of scaffold tube or a lesser diameter piece of tubing of that gauge and the nuts threaded rod and a big cupped washer shown in the pics. then just wind the silver nut until the bush come into the tube,neither bush sleeve came out but seperated from the rubber

The dremel sawzill was used to cut through the sleeve of the bush when it seperated from the rubber.

The tool was then used to push the new bushes in with plenty of lubricant

Well done Phil. That was quite a task and excellent that you kept photo's. 

I've decided to buy a set of the below as the 27mm should fit nicely onto the Bush, albeit that I may have to cut off the back part and drill out the 3/8 square to a round shape for a broader bar.  The other end a larger 32mm long fit or something my mechanic already has in his tool box should allow the bush to be drawn inside.   Thats the theory.  My Son, also suggested ferezing the new Bush before trying to install. May make sense?

I did manage to cut two pieces of Scaffolding tube one an inch long and the other four inches  (or thereabouts) and my mechanic did the job with the parts I supplied.  He still had to heat the hub area to extract the original bush using a blow torch to expand it.
