Sorry to hear of the drama Stuart, at least now you know the facts you can deal with it.

She should take some consolidation in the fact this happens every day across the country.  She isn't the first and won't be the last to make the same mistake.

Might be worth checking with her insurance in case the policy has misfuelling cover on it.  We would see this in work and sometimes the customers can claim some/all of the costs back as an insurance claim.  Could be an easy resolution for the sake of a phone call.  Really wouldn't like anyone to get hit with a 6k bill this close to Xmas!

Thanks for your kind words Jay. I’ll mention it to her just in case. Thanks.

Hopefully this is the last update.

The car is ready to be delivered back to her. The work done regardless off the options meant she lost the warranty on the fuel line side so the Lexus dealership have completed to work for just under £900 and she has to keep the fuel tank topped up and not to let the tank get below half for a min of 5 fills.

Personnally I can’t see an issue, if it was petrol in a diesel it would have been a disaster but with a good clean the car should be as it was when she picked it up.

I wonder if the title of the thread could be altered to something like diesel added by mistake to help searches if anyone else unfortunately does the same.

last word is the excellent service from the dealership throughout this.

I wonder what the reasoning is for this?

As a guess they have tried to clean it out and have done their best flushing it and are just covering themselves. To be honest I can’t see why as any residue left would be so diluted it would make very little difference.

Thanks Steve.

Should hear tomorrow what’s going on.
She had a Honda CRV before and she’s had 8 trouble free years from that which I was hoping the Lexus would match.

I wonder if the CRV was a diesel ?

I admit to putting petrol in a diesel! There were extenuating circumstances your honour! I throw myself onto the mercy of the court!

Could the petrol pump have dispensed diesel by mistake, or vice versa? I imagine this very rarely happens, but it's not unknown:

Also, another potential spanner in the works if you own a diesel car with AdBlue:

I admit it too 6 Litres into an empty 70 litre Merc tank in Spain. I got away with it.

I know this is an old thread but as it has been resurrected, I have a question. Will there be a record of what has happened to this particular 2019 NX? I wouldn't want to be the person buying it at some future date if it has no warranty on the petrol components. Any thoughts on this as there are obviously a certain number of used cars out there which have been incorrectly fueld?

The only way to be certain, is to buy from a Lexus dealer with a warranty!

Me too!

Some years ago we were out in my wife’s company car and she asked me to pull into a petrol station and directed me to a petrol pump.  She went off to pay while I filled up.

As we drove out I had a sudden question: Isn’t this a diesel?  Fortunately there was an immediate downhill left turn which enabled me to coast into a retail car park.

The AA guy I called out turned out to be someone I knew in the village.  He said it happens all the time.  He called out a specialist to empty the tank and refill with enough diesel to get back to the fuel station.

He said “you’re the third call I’ve had for this this morning  - and I’ve even done it myself!”

Fortunately I think it’s supposed to be lot harder to do these days!
