I took delivery of a new 300h Takumi three weeks ago. Unlike my previous 300h Premier, it makes this awful noise on startup and shutdown. I presume the car now thinks it's a computer and therefore has to make bongs and bings to tell us it's alive. However both my wife and I find it very irritating as it happens every time the car is started or turned off. I've searched the manual but can't find anything about silencing this noise. Can anyone out there help?

Hi Nigel - I took delivery of a Takumi just over a month ago and do not experience such noises - ask Lexus if you have not done so already

Thanks Tony. I have just sent an email to My Lexus and hope for a swift reply. Interesting that you don't have the same problem and gives me hope that mine can be easily sorted. Cheers.

Not on mine either

The only bongs and bings I experience on start up are as the audio/nav unit recognises my phone as connected, just a brief sound, nothing intrusive. Nothing on shutdown though

On our NX Takumi (May2019) there is only one "bong" on startup and that concerns the navigation warning message automatically cancelling (like the touchpad confirmation tone). There is, of course the "beep" after pressing the start button.

There are a lot of settings that the dealer can see on Techstream but are not on the settings menu in the car. As your car is so new then a quick visit to the garage should result in an FOC fix.

Hello Nigel,

We test drove many Lexus cars prior to purchase. They were all fitted with Dash Cams and they made a terrible noise at start up and shutdown.  If your car is fitted with a dashcam then pretty sure this is the noise you are experiencing. Just unclip the dashcam from the windscreen and try it without.  Hope this resolves your noise issue.

Nigel - do you have a dash cam?  I know by default that the Nextbase cam that dealers fit (I have one) makes an annoying sound on switch on and switch off.
It is possible to change the settings on the camera though so make it quiet.

Otherwise I’ve got no idea what kind of sounds you are referring to.  If you could record it and upload somewhere that may help.

Problem solved - peace and quiet restored! Many thanks for all replies, particularly PMR and pobrown who put me on the right track. The culprit was indeed the Dash Cam that the dealer persuaded me to have fitted. The answer is in the Dash Cam settings, accessed through your phone,  where the start up and shut down racket can be muted. Thanks again. This owners' forum is a terrifice resource to solve problems. As an aid to others who may experience the same problem, I've attached here a video of the noise before it was suppressed.
