Phone contacts on GSF with iPhone Pro

I noticed recently since I upgraded my phone from an Iphone X to a Iphone Pro ( so this could also be an iOS 13 issue) that if the phone numbers in my contacts have a ‘+44’ in front of them, then the name of the contact doesn’t show up in the car when that person rings. If I remove the ‘+44’ prefix then their name shows up on phone calls but not on text messages. Has anyone else noticed this? 
 
I’ve solved the issue by added two entrees for each contact covering both variations, which is a bit of a faff but not the end of the world. However I would be grateful if there was a better solution to this.
