You just need to ask Malc for advice on the bribes.

The vibes are simply …….  to look after your Ls400, proper servicing and hopefully preventative maintenance …… and to keep to one’s “ simple “ Ls400 and not some more modern complex electronic Lexus wizardry 😰

Oh, I thought you meant bribing the MOT station to turn a blind eye to the open exhaust or pollution failure ? Not vibes?

I used to know some MOT places years ago who would pass your car for a small "fee". But those days are long gone now that everything is monitored and registered.

Probably the same era when a friend of mine took his Thames van in for an MOT.  The test procedure consisted solely of the mechanic saying “ I need to go and pick something up.  Give us a loan of your van for half an hour and I’ll write out the certificate when I get back.”

90000km service carried out this morning, with change of plugs as per schedule.  The car ran smoothly before, and now it runs even more smoothly.

My 'ghost in the car' was resolved this morning with the new Battery fitted. Bit of an anticlimax. Nothing was fried, failed to start ,or indeed anythingelse. Old Battery out, new Battery in. Couple of button presses to get my digital readings back on screen. reset my seat position and that was it.

Also made contact with a little indy garage just down the road that I did not even know was there. They have ramps and I have a car with an underbody. This could be romeo and juliet for my sealing of the underbody. Although if the rain keeps off I will be moving on to fitting the reversing camera first. Been so wet here it's been hard to get anything done that needs doing outside.

So pleased it went well. I may pluck up courage and do my own Battery change when ready.

I am glad to hear that the onboard computer and radio/nav system did not jump out of the car in flames, shouting BANZAI! and rush off down the road followed by a hail of bullets.

I must stop watching those old films on daytime TV.

As an aside, I have noticed that one's confidence doing "ordinary" maintenance jobs fades a bit with age. At one time I thought nothing of taking out an engine/clutch/ whatever. Now, I would not risk it. I did have the courage to put a new Vance and Hines slip-on exhaust on the bike yesterday. OMG you can hear it a mile away. There's nothing in it! The neighbours will hate me even more now that the car has competition for who is the loudest.

Hi Stephen. I am considering an underseal treatment/rust prevention? lanoguard maybe? and an alloy wheel refurb. Do you know anyone near Preston.

I have not looked into alloy refurbs so can't help you with that one. On the underseal treatment just hang fire for may be a week at most and may be I can then help you with that one.

There was a place in Bamber Bridge which I used many years ago but can’t find them again, maybe they have gone out of business. There is a company called The Alloy Wheel Specialist in Clitheroe which looks pretty good.
If you don’t mind sending the wheels away I would recommend Lepsons in Gillingham, Kent. I’ve used them a few times and they have a tyre supply fitting service as well if you want the wheels refurbished and new tyres of your choice fitted. The wheels will come back better than new, new tyres fitted and packaged really well. Not cheap but one of the best in my opinion.

What did I do to my Lexus today?

Snowy.thumb.jpg.81c758e048deec22eb68e90445ebaeeb.jpg

Dusted off the bootlid and retrieved the nicely-chilled beers that were inside.

Started my 400 and went shopping…bit clunky downshift around 2nd but took a while to warm up…front suspension a bit clunky too…need to spend some love over the Christmas hols if it’s not too cold. 😁

Was impressed tonight that the door mirrors on the 91 Ls400 heated instantly,  cleared the ice and frost before anything else …….. the jazz night finished about 9.15 and all twas frosty ?  ice covering the car

Took a friend from Kent to Essex and back, for him to buy a car (don't ask the make or model!). My LS 400 averaged 32 mpg over 175 miles.

He commented what a comfortable car the LS 400 was to ride in!

I could not agree with him more!

Having a relaxed leisurely 175 mile drive in a Ls400 is just blissful …….. I rarely, thankfully, experience “ normal “ everyday cars discomfort …….. I’d always prefer to drive knowing I’m more than likely to go in my Ls400

Those poor souls having to drive ordinary cars are blessed having a trip in Lexus comfort

Not today as such, but recently took myself and a passenger on a 120 mile round trip (last done 3 years ago) to a routine hospital appointment and it didn't miss a beat. Mixed Irish roads and a motorway blast and then the usual heavy city traffic and even heavier at the Royal hospital (40 minutes to get into the car park in start stop traffic anyone?)  Last time I did that run was in a then brand new Citroen C5 Aircross and I know which car I would do it again in and it won't be the C5 !

Got a new steering wheel tilt motor fitted today (£200 of eBay + another £50 for customs & import taxes - Japan) .  It hadn't been working since I got my LS 430 so I was really looking forward to having the car present herself to me when I turned the ignition.  I must admit it made me blush! 😉    Threw in a cheeky wee oil change too, to get me through to August MOT.

Not quite today, but the alternator packed up on me. Need to inspect whether it's just the alternator that went pop, or if it was caused by the famous power steering pump leak.

my last one went pop at about 210k? miles without interference from the PAS unit

What mileage is your car on ?

the cold gets to them this time of year 😞 but a better outcome then finding out you also have a PS leak!

My car is on 97,000 miles. 1996 LS400. Bought it about 2.5 years ago. Unsure if the alternator or PS pump has ever been replace before. Will inspect when I get the chance.

I would say it’s quite likely to be honest on a 96 LS400, maybe not the pump itself but the reservoir O ring leaking. I’ve fitted a new steering pump on my 98 LS400 today, long story and I’ve done a post/topic about pump and rack leak but not updated it.
