From the Lexus UK media site published today, all about the new engine, drivetrain, hybrid system and body shell. Pretty interesting and quite technically sophisticated (Super polymer composite hatch skin for instance)!

41% thermal efficiency is commendable achievement, but does highlight how poor ICE engines are!

UX is certainly impressive technically, let's hope its also as impressive to drive and be a passenger in. I'll take it as read it will be reliable! 😁

It is interesting to note Toyota are still sticking to using NiMh batteries having now had the fitted in hybrids for 20 years.

Apparently charge and dis-charge cycles are much better than Li-Ion..  note from experience what's in a typical mobile phones after less than 2 years, the Battery has lost its ability to store as much charge as when new... the rate of decay on Li-Ion is much worse than NiMh.. Aren't many companies inckuding Toyota trying to develop next gen batteries that are solid state etc that are supposedly much better.. to get higher power density in smaller volume than current Battery tech...

Toyota claim they can charge at a higher rate on NiMh so you get more regen benefit and they work better at lower temperatures. Quality NiMh batteries can typically go through double the number of recharge cycles compared to Li-ion.

They do use Li-ion in the plug-in Prius though where the extra capacity vs weight/size makes it a better choice.
