Hi all,

I’ve had my 2018 NX Luxury for 3 months now and noticed that the electric tailgate does not have the kick to open sensor. Not a big problem but having paid for the convenience pack, it’s a bit odd that they make it slightly inconvenient.

Do you only get the sensor on trim levels where the electric tailgate is standard?

Unfortunately it is not available in our European version, it is only in North America, not sure if its available anywhere else.

Think it available on the premier model but not 100% certain.

There’s an Autoexpress report from the European debut of the facelift NX at the Frankfurt Motor Show which mentions the kick sensor. Maybe an error or a decision to cut corners before it got to the showrooms.

No, the article is dated September 2017 and states that these updates will be available at the end of 2017.

Had it on my GLC, pain in the arsenal. Dogs tail would make it shut, when I sat on the back to put wellies on it would shut, I had a mat that covered the bumper and a bit of wind making it fall and guess what, it would shut! Don't even think about giving the car a wash with the key in your pocket, that would always make it open when round the back...

Amusing but I see your problem and would find this equally annoying. When it is fitted on the NX there is an option to disable the sensor but obviously this defeats the object.

I found a similar problem when washing the car with keys in pocket where the doors keep locking and unlocking. Once unlocked, I leave the key in the garage.

I had a 2019 NX300h Takumi 🇬🇧 and if it had kick sensors or remote start then I was certainly unaware of them.  So as far as I'm concerned .... not in my experience.

In the UK the higher spec ones definitely have a kick sensor, unsure if its an option or part of the grade, if you had a tow bar accessory fitted it will be swapped out for a shorter kick sensor that will only work on the left side of the bumper.

Just had the tow bar fitted and I did wonder, but the kick sensor still works. We thought it was just a gimmick but find it surprisingly useful. Still wondering why the vehicle took 12 months to arrive but the towbar took 15 months!
