Hello

my brothers ls400(n plate) just scrapped through its mot with the biggest problem being the rear sub frame is corroded, anyone know of a subframe with arms sitting about? Wouldn’t need diff and shafts.

if I go to a breakers I’d soon spend more in parts than the cars worth.

get a second opinion about the rust for sure .............  corrosion is often only skin blemish  deep and not always very serious ........  worth a second opinion for sure..  MOT Testers can be a rum lot !

mine's on 216k miles and same age and not a blip in sight on the underside I'm told .  and to my knowledge she's never been specially treated and for at least 10 years lived on the coast too

It’s been an advisory before, I’m all to well versed in welding up old vehicles 😂 rather find a solid one than get the welder out

Youe car has passed its MOT just as my '95 Mk 3 passed with advisories, 'severe rust affecting rear sub frame'. Took it to another MOT inspector and he hit the frame hard with a solid billet of steel. 'Forget the rust raining down, listen to the metal ringing', this is not a failure.

I made a mistake by getting rid of that car which could have served me for a couple more years, it was just the sight of the rust at the back that spooked me.
