Morning all hope you're well?

Literally a few days ago I bought my 1st Lexus, a Rx 450H but it has only come with one key.

Looking for a more reasonable way to afford a 2nd key, any recommendations?

Thanks

Immy.

Was it private, Lexus or other?

Did it come advertised with two?

Thanks for your response, they didn't advertise 2 keys and came from a car dealer, but wasn't a Lexus dealership.

Should come with two keys.  As long as you have the master key (black fob) and not the valet keyfob, you can buy a spare "dumb" transponder unit and program via the ECU.  I think you may require an OBD kit to do this, available for little money.  Otherwise the dealer will charge around £280 for a spare and have that programmed for you (you need to supply them with the master key for this service).  If you don't have the master key, you may need the security system replaced and new keys provided which Lexus charge up to £1200 for or about half that from an independent.  There may be other alternatives and I'm sure a search on here should shed some light on what to do.

Techstream will allow you to reprogram the immobiliser element of a second-hand key, check on eBay. The transponder chips on Toyota/Lexus keys aren't locked so S/H keys can be reprogrammed for a different car.

A search on Google will bring up the way to reprogram the remote element e.g. HERE. This is just a procedure of door opening and key insertion.

You'll need to ensure that any S/H key you buy is from the correct model/age as the electronics do change across the years. Check the marking inside the key.

I've done this a few times on Toyotas and Lexus but it's obviously at your own risk. 😉
