RX450h (2018) auto dip/main beam headlights; I have been using them over the last few weeks on A roads. I find them too slow in reacting to oncoming traffic (ie dipping from main beam).

Any similar experiences ?

The system works in a different way, as beam is not a single on-off one, but high lights are kept on except for the angles that cross vehicles coming: I find it very effective.

Depends on the spec,

In the UK only the Premier has the adaptive feature you describe.

They do react too slow and tbh I find it easier to manually control them

Opss, I thought the feature was the same for all 2018 versions; I had auto high beam on my previous 2014 GS, and the issue was the opposite, switching on high beam late 🙂

Yes, I don't use AHBC as it is just too unreactive. The worst feature is the fact it does not switch back to main beam until you get to around 30mph. For rural dwellers like me, turning into an unlit side road into the dark is dangerous.

Gimmick  just like auto lights on  makes other motorists think you are flashing  them. On the lighter side buy a cheap car hire a chauffeur  he'll do it all for you

I agree. Probably the problem is that under a fixed speed, accordingly to circulation laws, a vehicle should keep low beams only, same in urban areas, even if it' s a nonsense.

Are there two types of headlamp control?

One, as in my RC, that simply dips the main beam and a second that (I think) rayaans describes, that modifies the beam pattern of the high beam?

Yes. The premier comes with adaptive high beams which changes the pattern of the beam to stop blinding oncoming traffic

The other grades come with auto high beam which just dips and undips
