Always thought exactly the same with the Volvo until someone casually mentioned covering the brake when you release it. I thought Doh! Very quickly became second nature after starting the car.

Setright wrote an article expounding the benefits of driving Auto cars  using BOTH feet, one for accelerator, one for brake.

I have it somewhere.

Made perfect sense to me as you have instant control of the car at all times.

Takes a bit of time to educate your feet.

I have to remind myself when I drive a non-auto car though!

HJ has been an advocate of left foot braking for many years. He was probably a student of LJK.

I always brake with my left foot, it just feels natural.

The secret is to take all loose change out of your left trouser pocket, it gives you a lighter foot!👣

Thanks, but where else can I keep my threepenny bits, tanners, shillings, florins and half-crowns Phil ?

I have a bad knee and drive with my left foot resting above the dashboard - so it's not really an option.

Takes a little practice.

You would have LOVED the Citroen DS brake.

It was a button (that opened a hydraulic valve) that required very little pressure. In summer, I drove barefoot, braking the car with my big toe!

In a small velvet purse inside your waistcoat, where else?

I once drove a Citroen XM manual with the foot operated handbrake all the way from Central London to Wirral. Boy, that we some trial.

Thankyou - I will give it a a go and let you know. That solution never occurred to me. By the way, I also find that big clunky noise very annoying when I pull the release handle. Sounds more like a tractor than a luxury sedan.

Hi,

I tried this but it doesn't work. If I pull the lever and the foot brake hits my foot, the park brake stays on regardless. I have tried raising my foot to different levels but the result is always the same - ie, on or off. There may be a sweet spot I haven't been able to find, but for now I am using my left foot on the brake pedal as this is simpler (but v annoying).

Thanks for the suggestion though. It made perfect sense.

Hi Andrew,

How's your Crown Majesta coping with the Australian heat and recent events?

I think when we last had a conflab I mentioned one of the downsides of the Car (which I personally prefer to the Celsior in looks) is that interior Wood trim - as seen in this rather nice example doesn't cope with heat. Such a pity though daresay it can be replaced.

Yes, I have the same peeling trim problem. Has got so bad I will be taking it to a trim specialist in the next week or so. Hopefully they can fix it with a heat gun and adhesive. Only affects the front dashboard - side and rear trim all ok. It's the QLD heat that did it.

Still pleased with the Car, otherwise?.

Does your Car have soft close doors, and double glazing?  How do you compare it to any other Lexus you've owned?

I do like the styling of the Car and am even tempted by the Hairdressers white.  Mind you, I daresay this will pass.

PS All LS400's have the foot handbrake. Only time needed is on a P&O Ferry when they stow you on the side ramps.  Bit hair-raisng I've found. Still no such issue in Oz.

Car is great -  reliable, comfortable, powerful. Luxury sport.

Does my car have those features? Not sure. It's supposed to be the same as a lexus 430, so if they have it I should to. How does the soft door close work? Do you press the door button?

One feature I can confirm is missing from the Crown is the valet lock. I know the LS430 has them, but I can't find the button in the crown.Perhaps I don't have those other features either.

Brisbane has some very steep streets. When I'm in the city, I release the parking brake with my left foot hard on the brakes - then use that to do a hill start. Once moving, remove left foot and you are back to normal auto driving. Works but always feels a little odd.

Never owned a lexus. so can't say. But the step up from the 400 to the 430 was a big one. I love my crown and it cost me less then half of a previous generation lexus with more mileage.

Crowns are good!

Soft close doors or Power doors  as are quoted on Japanese sales, I suspect are optional on purchase. Started on the W140 Merc series. Essentially you just push the door toward the jam and it self closes very quietly.  No need to slam and wake the neighbours etc.  Double Glazing once again intro' by Merc but pretty sure the LS430 has it as standard. Noise reducing.  You can feel the thickess when open.

So, on steep streets you presumably put the Steering on opposite lock, so it falls back into the curb when parking?  Never had a problem with my LS400 handbrake as use it every time I go out.  A common fault and fail on MOT in UK to those who don't use it every time, I've noticed.

Wish it was cheaper to import from Japan to UK but still puts a 2006 model in the £5k range and with the Japanese wording, its still questionable as to the advantage. Also, notice Rock Auto in the States doesn't have the Crown Majesta in its parts listing. Many of us rely on importing parts from them. Possible its all the same as Celsior or LS430

Well I don't think I have soft close doors - but the glass is pretty thick.

Don't do any opposite steering. Just use the brake pedal. Works a treat.

LS430 - identical inside.

Hellow everyone im

new to Majesta, i recently changed my Battery now my screen panel works only for few seconds. Can anyone help me how i can permanently keep it switchEd on?
thanks you

Hi David and welcome to the LOC.

I have a Toyota Celsior and my expertise is generally on that model but you could try disconnecting the Battery for a short while in the hope that the system will then reset.

Also check for any plugs or wiring that may have been disturbed when you replaced the Battery and all fuses.

I will take a photo of the mystery button and post it here so you can take a look. Have no idea what it does.

My car also had a breakdown flare. I saw it in the photos before I collected the car and had to ask the import agent what it was for  The compliance shop removed it though.

You are quite right - the video link shows you how to keep the AC/Audio (and other) screens on full time so it doesn't just flick back to the default screen. That was one of the first things I did because it was really annoying. All good now.

TV screen is the same for me. I get sound on some channels but no picture. Why do they have TV in the dash anyway? Seems insane.

When I picked the car up, there were some large plastic components left in the passenger well. I watched a lexus ls430 video which  showed all the hidden storage compartments under the seats but I can't get these bits to even closely fit anywhere. I also had a brand new set of snow chains in the boot. They weigh a ton and as I live in tropical Queensland they are about as useful as an inflatable dart board.

Sorry to be that guy but the crown majesta is not the same as the ls430 that would be the celsior.

The crown predates lexus buy 40 odd years infact its the longest constantly produced sedan in the world. but for the most part has only been available new in Japan, bar short international runs in the erly days and in China in more resent times.

Due to lexus not being avalerbul internally in Japan untill 2009 there were a number of lexus modules sold under the toyota badge in japan, some off the top of my head are

Lexus GS  =  toyota aristo

Lexus LS  = toyota celsior

Lexus IS   = toyota alteza

In japan the crown alongside the toyota Century were toyotas flag ship sadans over and above the celsior aka LS430 but when lexus became available in 2009 they rolled all the doubles into 1 badge under lexus and promoted the LS range to top spot.

As a rezolt the 12gen toyota crowns / 4th gen majesta are probably the high point of the 75~80 0dd years they have been made.

The Century is still Japans limo for the emporo so that may hold it in top spot over all.

Love the lot of them.

The original post didn't actually say it's the same car, but it did say it's the same engine as the LS430, which it is. I've had two LS430's and one 2003 Celsior and the engine is the same in all of them, as are most of the buttons/switches.
