Something else about this forum. There's no unpleasantness.

It's because we are all so chilled from driving around in a quiet, powerful, comfortable, luxury cars!

I think there is something to be said for driving a marque that doesn't really have any baggage. There does seem to be a maturity of attitude (and age) on here which helps.

Obviously there's the F lot but even they seem to behave

I bought an LS460 a few weeks ago for motorway munching which stands me at £3k in repairs already.

The control arms needed doing which is common wear and tear so I had those done initially, but then a few weeks later while the car was in for a full service the front radar sensor failed so it resulted in needing a new radar sensor and Lexus badge which has now been done. I'll never know why it failed so suddenly, from reading forums they tend to play up in bad weather first more and more before going but this went from perfect operation to being unable to drive more than 100 metres without the car dinging and logging errors.

For reference it was a C1646 error in the IPA / Parking Assist Monitor ECU saying Power Steering Control System invalid. It took the dealer a lot of work to identify the exact root cause as the radar module but it's now done 200 miles since I got it without any more drama (touch wood).

TPMS was throwing an error which turned out to be a missing spare so I bought another and used SDR to work out the new code and then used Carista to program it in - very useful indeed and worth having one in the car for emergencies.

I've bought diagnostics as well for the car and Techstream is good - certainly better than anything available when I had the IS200 or Aristo.

The cheap MiniVCI cable I had with firmware 1.4.1 and TS10 wasn't great - the VCX Nano WiFi or SPX OTC VIM Work much better with full functionality in the latest Techstream from lexus-tech.eu.

Welcome back Aido!.. long time no see

If you want to liven up a bit go on to any BMW forum.

I'm a present 5 series E60 owner who's feeling the heat badly when it comes to German car ownership. 2009 523i (apparently the most reliable model) with just 70k and a FSH has cost me over 2k in repairs this year. Oil leaks, warped rocker cover, misfiring you name it. On the contrast I ran my previous Honda Accord V6 Coupe from 30,000 to 80,000 miles without a single incident. Now the TypeAccord forum was as static as hell in the technical section. However the general banter section was a bit more lively.

Am 99% looking for a 2012 on GS. However......a low miler LS460 could be a bit of a coup. Pay less initially and more on fuel. Pay as you go motoring I call it.

Usually when I'm referring to unpleasantness on forums I'm thinking either BMW or VAG...

The Bimmerforum is full of fanboys who won't have anything bad said about the brand. I've heard things like "they are specialist motors they need specialist care" when referring to a 320d.

The BMW5 forum though is a lot more tranquil with a number of users as frustrated with their cars as anyone.

I think they mean when the timing chain snaps 🤣

The German marques do seem to attract the fanboys that's for sure.  Just read the comments on any car videos on Youtube.

On looking Jag forum I have decided she is not having a another Jag.  Maybe back to Honda for her, though she was tempted by a GS300 a while ago.

Sorry, only just found this thread.

My previous three cars were Hondas, Two Accords and a Civic Hybrid. All very good and reliable cars. I would have liked to have bought

another Honda, but they no longer sell 4 door saloons with a boot, in the UK.  Whereas in the US you can get the Accord and Civic hybrids.

They never sold the Accord hybrid here.

Apparently the Average age of a Lexus driver is 52, the average age of a Merc driver is 42 and For BMW it's 32!  I think this speaks volumes for the 'civility' in this forum!

This is a major omission from Honda. I would have considered a four door Honda saloon but I'm glad to have gone down the Lexus route again.

Bet the age range varies considerably by Lexus Model, so average is not really indicative.

Suspect the LS400 is way above that average or is it just me - oh and Malc?

I don't put my age into any forums or sites if I can avoid it. Just a security thing not being astute enough to keep ahead of the computer crims.

This was my extreme frustration after having 5 years of hassle free ownership of a 1999 Honda Accord 3.0 V6 coupe. Bought at 11 years old in 2010 with 30k on the clock that car didnt miss a beat. Logically an 8th gen Accord was the answer but I just found the model and engine range underwhelming and a bit illogical. Why only a standard diesel in the range topping EX-GT? The other issue was the fact that I'm 6'4 and fairly long in the back so it pretty much rules out most sunroof models. The Lexus GS 3rd gen was lacking a bit in headroom even without a sunroof so that was off the menu. 4th gen was out of my price range. The only other option was a Legend. No doubt this would have been reliable as hell but I just couldn't quite stomach the allegedly awful MPG. Total cost of  ownership would have been interesting when compared with my beemer though.

In the event my 523i has been okay overall. Just a question of having quite a few expensive issues recently. It also sucked £1300 out of the one year warranty too including a failed boot wiring loom and two failed electric windows. The BMW5 forum is actually very good. Got a lot of good advice from the guys on there including quite a few admissions that the 2.5 litre engines are flawed from birth. Ironic since it was the 5 series 6cyl petrol models that gave BMW their good reputation in the first place.

last Honda Legend generation UK car here  HV56GWO  brilliant car on 6000 limited annual mileage insurance though.  Last owner ( my bro-in-law )  had some scary suspension stuff bills but we have had this car for over 2 yrs now and nothing untoward, just front disks and pads and usual servicing consumables

mpg, why worry ...............  it's amazingly comfy and fast and quick when needed .......  damn awful steering lock though , turning circle the circumference of Mars :whistling:

Try the Mercedes forums. Plenty of agro on them. Here is an oasis of calm, easily the calmest forum I have ever been on. The Volvo forum was better and on the whole the owners thought highly of their cars. I would certainly have another.

The XC60 we had was truly awful. Never again. Although the new XC90 is meant to be nice. Would prefer a new RX though.
