I am thinking about the possibility of importing a nearly new IS350 or IS200T from Australia as they are quite common model out there and are obviously RHD. Anyone any ideas of importing costs and how it works with UK road tax / reg etc? Many thanks

European imports are straight forward just mot them and fill in the forms from dva website, the registration fee is less than £100. The odd one would be selected for an identity check and if it's not stolen your all good!

jap imports were coming here for a while but soon stopped as insurers wouldn't take them, you might want to look at that first.

you will have a customs charge Hmrc should be able to give you a guide on what they will charge probably based on its U.K. Value.

do check about insurers first tho. Goodluck

What a load of rubbish !!

People are still regularly importing Jap cars and insuring them every year.

The biggest challenge to importing one of these more recent models will be that there may not be a model report available which is required to demonstrate that the car complies to relevant standards. May be easier for the IS200T as it was sold here for a period.

As above, chat to one of the importers, and Jurgen has a good reputation as he has been doing this a while, and the will be able to estimate costs for you.

And witch part is rubbish? Toyota Camrys and previas were very desired here but unfortunately the insurance problems effected their value greatly, meaning they were not worth the grief importing!  Where's the rubbish?

i worked on many when they were imported fitting rear fog lights and fitting taco plates ect.

all Lexus may origeonate from Japan but they are built for uk market to uk spec.

ive nothing to gain by talking rubbish I simpily advise to check with insurers first.

Actually I used a word a little stronger than that but looks like whoever modified it wants to remain anonymous.

Which actually is a little bit worrying if people are able to modify others posts on this forum with no visibility.

So are you telling me all the Jap importers listed below are fake and not importing any cars because nobody will insure them?

I'm not sure what taco plates you would have been fitting to an imported saloon car, as it's the speedo which needs modifying not the tachometer. More Bollox.

Believe me the Jap import market (and other markets) is alive and healthy.

We call them taco plates because they stick to the taco! Where's the bollocks?

it worries you that someone can can change something on a forum?

you have little to worry you.

jap imports may well still be alive but insurance hurts them this side of the water was all I tryed to say, not sure what the need for ignorance was but this conversation between you and me is over!

have a nice day!

Just my pennies worth. Having bought an imported Celsior in August I can certainly confirm that most insurers wouldn't touch it. However, there are some Japanese import insurance specialists.  When I contacted the one recommended by the importer I had no trouble.  The fully comp cover with a very low (£150) excess is under £300.

So just to remind you of what you said:

So saying imports stopped is factually incorrect and misleading to anybody who reads it, hence why I posted in response.

As you say, end of..
