Guys. Porsche AG have just released an App called roads. Anyone can register, with or without a Porsche and the app promises to be immense. You simply hit ‘record’ when driving down your favourite road, and it ‘records’ where you went and then uploads it for others to find. Users can then rate and comment on other users driving roads. It’s early days but could be a great way of finding good roads when organising road trips etc.

You could use it to compare your best time, highest cornering speed, etc!

Seems like a quick way to get great roads slapped with average speed cameras unfortunately...

An online record of 'enthusiastic' driving?

Could be as embarrassing as posting videos on YouTube...

Sorry if I was unclear. Not an online record of the driving itself. Just a record of the route (so a bit different to Strava).

For example I live just south of London in Cobham (Surrey). To get to my parents in Worthing (Sussex) - I can take the a24, but if I’m not worried about time and I want to enjoy the drive a little more, there’s a route from mine that takes in lots of little roads through the Surrey hills that still gets me to Worthing but is an absolute blast in my RCF.

Now unless you grew up in the Surrey hills there’s very little likelihood you would take this route - so it’s nice to share.

Similarly next time I go to Nottingham to see a mate of mine there will be the M and A road route, but a user might share a good driving road I can try out instead.

Still seems like a stupid idea to me.

it could wind up locals and bring too much attention to a stretch of road.

Evo Triangle. I rest my case.

I hope it gets banned

Happy Thursdays @MartinLexus  !

Certainly wouldn’t be a ‘HAPPY THURSDAY’ if you lived on a road which some app listed as a great ‘drive’ (aka raceway!).

There's not generally houses on the type of roads enthusiasts like to drive, I also dont think this will see people flocking to a stretch of road in their thousands.

I for one would be interested to see if it threw up some roads close to home I was not aware of

It’s not just the proximity of houses, it’s the potential nuisance to other road users.

Just Google ‘Evo Triangle’ to get an understanding of how Evo Magazine has promoted  this section of road. e.g. https://www.darrenmillaram.com/news/residents-hoodwinked-over-speed-camera-promise-evo-triangle

If this app becomes popular, it will reach far more people than Evo Magazine ever has.

Like I said, I hope the app fails or is banned.

A number of cyclists have had expensive bikes stolen because their Strava route started from their house and theives worked out where they lived. If you do use it, make sure your start point is well away from it.

On strava, you can add privacy zones, so it won’t display your route within 1/8, 1/4 etc miles from your start/end point.

Still a valid point though, not sure I’d like to lead unsortly-sorts to my front door...
