Hi guys

I know there is lots of things online about this problem... and how to turn the vsc light off however i cant find anything online about what the problem is causing the vsc light to come on in the 1st place on a gs300 anyways.

Its normally off until the car moves off, there are no codes showing up through the obd has anyone had any experience with this?

many thanks

With the GS300 I had the VSC light was the post cat o2 sensor, and I'm guessing these sensors are the single most common reason for it. If a cheapish OBD11 scanner doesn't show a code a good one often will. When you say it's off until the car moves off, does that mean it just comes and goes? Sometimes I think it's worth just spending that bit extra and getting a pro to do a diagnostic.

Hi Phil

Yeah it goes off then on again when driving not when started up but when driving.

I thought it might be a sensor on the drive train

In that case it may put doubt on an O2 sensor.  My wife has had problems with her car and I tried with my very basic scanner but it wasn't clear.  I took it to a mechanic with much better equipment but still not clear.  I then took it to a diagnostic specialist who charged £65 but the problem was found and the car sorted.  The thing is, they invest thousands in equipment so it may be worth going down that route.  Basic scanners are fine for "basic" faults, but sometimes its not enough. Hopefully someone will come up with something more helpful.

That's OK, it's worth checking as my VSC light was on and off.  Big bumps always set it off, then eventually it would re-set.

Only when the exhaust finally cracked (she sounded very fruity!!!) did the light stay on...Good luck!!

was having intermittent vsc light with cat below efficiency code, Small hole inexhaust welded. ewcurred a few times with no change in engine performance. then realised there was a pattern to this . It seemed to be after refuelling. So cleaned filler cap reseated it etc. no recurrence for 4 weeks now

I replaced the filler cap sealing ring on my GS, only £12 for a rubber ring!

Just to say, replacing the sealing ring didn't resolve my issue! What happened to the ball joint?

worth a try with the ring i recon...

While driving my wife back from the station last night I heard a slight thudding sound... this morning on the way to the station it was much louder.

I gave the wheel a tug and heard a clunking so pulled it off the car with sockets not my superhuman strength rattled it about then with my hand squeezed the joint and wiggled the arm and the noise was gone so...... new upper wishbone in the post. a cup of tea and feet up feeling some what better.

Knowing the problem is half of the battle I think.

I checked all the other joints and found one to be cracked a little (control arm maybe its called it's different to the LS430 so not sure of the name but sits so the bolt goes through vertically  so that's next on the list I say next but I am doing the timing belt job on monday so 2nd maybe.

I found out what the thudding was as it got too loud to even drive to halford's for a ball joint splitter.

Somebody forgot to tighten the wheel nuts on one of the wheels of the car causing the wheel to wobble and thud, now I do have a camera over the door so I could go back to check the footage However I am a kind hearted soul and would not dream of finding out who was responsible and shaming them publicly.

It seems though they might have done me a favor doing so otherwise I would not know about the upper wishbone ball joint being worn to a nub.

I may have to delete this post so my wife does not see it as I will never admit this one to her.

The rubber ring sorted the VSC issue for me but I don't think that's your problem though.
