Would like the 350 but the tax is too high.

Yes that is deeply annoying especially when you see knackered old Mondeo's/Passats or worse still BMW's that have had the DPF removed with thick black smoke belching out of the exhaust knowing that they are paying much less due to their "green" credentials.

With the new Mot they will feel the pain, as they are checking Dpfs and smoking is a failure. A lot of taxis will be stuffed as they remove the Dpfs to avoid issues from all the short runs and sitting stationary withe engine running. A taxi driver with a Toyota Avensis told me this as otherwise they had egr and dpf issues.

More likely they’ll just find cleverer ways to cheat, or get a dodgy MOT. I hope you’re right though.

I think you’re being a bit discourteous to taxi drivers chaps. I regularly get taxis in Cambridge and a few of the drivers have mentioned they have to have to go for a drive down the motorway in third gear at high revs to clear out the EGR valves etc ahead of their regular, mandated, twice yearly licence check.

Blame tax incentives to drive diesels with increasingly spurious mpg figures - I’m looking at you VW.
