Just an update to say that I had a call from the dealer this morning following up.  I told him my concerns with the service history and he said he would enquire with Lexus UK about it and see what he can find out.

I might trying ringing around as well to see what I can find.

In the meantime, a friend of mine wants to buy my car, so it looks like I might not have a part-ex either.  Although I am still not hopeful of getting any meaningful discounts out of them.

Gems are not often discounted Shahpour !

So true John

Interesting update....I spoke to Lexus Hatfield this morning and they confirmed that it actually has had 5 services with them, not 2.  The guy at the service desk even said the first 3 only appear on their system, not the Lexus UK network.  He was happy to put 5 stamps in the book if it was sent to him.

So, with that in mind.....deposit paid

Pleased that all seems well and am looking forward to both a full report on the car once you have got used to it and to appropriate pictures !

Enjoy!

Thanks John.

Hopefully all will be well when it comes time to collect.

I have asked the dealer to confirm some things, so assuming he gives the right answers, it should be good to go.

Fingers crossed.

So, a couple of emails with the dealer has confirmed (at least in writing) the following:

It has 2 keys.

It has no bodywork damage and will be valeted.

The wheels will be refurbed.

The service book is being posted recorded delivery to Lexus Hatfield today.

The cost of the service plan (with discount) confirmed.

3 years warranty included.

New MOT.

It is being sold on the Lexus Approved Used program.

I think that's it for now

If it all works out I will collect it on Saturday.  A friend of mine is buying my current car, so I will still be seeing it around and it will hopefully continue to be looked after.  I did speak to the warranty people yesterday who told me since I can't extend the warranty again next year since it has now gone over 140,000 miles and 10 years old.  Hopefully it will carry on being as faithfully reliable for my friend as it has for me.

Curious about the warranty, is a full Lexus warranty the same like you'd get on a brand new car? Or is it the typical kind of warranty you'd get from a dealer when buying used car, ie it doesn't cover any maintenance items or "wear and tear" which means you can really only claim if something physically breaks way before it's supposed to. The latter kind gives them huge wiggle room to weasel out of any claim and is generally probably not worth paying for.

I believe it is a warranty insurance scheme but it is specific to Lexus. The general feedback is that it's probably as close as you will get to a new car warranty on a used car. The downside is that you need to get the car serviced by Lexus

Bob is correct, it is quite close to a new car warranty, with the obvious exception of wear and tear items (tyres, brakes, Battery, etc..)

John, the current mileage of the car is 144,000 miles.
