What's your plan post RC-F?

I normally change my toy car every April, but at the moment I can't think what I'd change the Rcf for.

So I may go another year with it.

But my shortlist is :-

Cayman 981 GTS in blue or grey.

R8 V10+ if I can con the missus out of more of her savings lol.

Or chuck 10k at the Rcf for a supercharger if I'm feeling very brave.

I like to try and think 2 cars ahead but it’s hard to know with my daughter. She is 5 but is the height of a 6 year old so in 3 years time it all depends if she fits in the back of a coupe! If she does I don’t think there is a better car than the rcf as a package. Don’t like the porker panamara, the Maserati is slower, more expensive to run, less reliable etc. She wouldn’t fit in a db9, 911or Evora by that stage and I don’t want a saloon! So bugger knows!

if I get a 2 seater id love the new vantage as long as it depreciates in line with the current line. An Aston is a dream car for me. The ultimate goal is a McLaren but that is many years off.

The issue is the rcf really is a fantastic package sonthe question is almost ‘what are you looking to sacrifice to gain something different in your next car?’.

Aston Rapides are coming into budget! Four door Aston fun and they look good in the right colour and with the bigger wheels!

I really am not a fan of the elongated body and 4 doors. It’s coupe or sports car for me. The rapids is a single car solution more than a toy I think. We will always have a second car for family duty. If I had the wedge it would be a Ferrari gtc4 lusso.

Me Too !

I did look at Vantages before buying my RCF, but the number of significant repairs (driveline) put me off somewhat. Lovely cars but I really do not want that kind of headache, when there is an option not to.

I guess this is the issue. The more expensive the cars we buy the more expensive everything is. I seem to recall vantage service costs range from 800-1500 ish. You certainly want a extended warranty on anything like these.

The Maserati is just so damn unreliable and the gearbox is a pig. You need to lift to shift gear for smooth changes. It’s beautiful but the Lexus would be a better dynamic car and way more reliable.

Interesting, I know someone that has 2 and he reports they are far more reliable than people think, although I would accept they wont be as reliable as a Lexus, but what is?

The gearbox on the MC/ Stradale is the one to avoid apparently, otherwise they are fine, again this is the opinion of a Maserati enthusiast, anyway the decision can wait for a while yet, no complaints with the Gsf.

It is the stradale my friend owns and maybe he has been unlucky but has had quite a few issues with his. 

It certainly is a good looking car but not sure I’d feel confident crossing continents in it.

Yes, the crossing continents is a big concern, I did it with my Isf and will be doing it in a few months in the Gsf with complete confidence.

Indeed, did it in my Evora and will doing it when I buy an rcf with confidence!

LC500 I am guessing. But my kids legs are not getting any shorter, so I might have to saw them down to stumps to fit them in the back!

For me the RCF is an indulgence - pretty much the only time I’ve ever been selfish as a dad, and the family wagon is for carting kids to and from so I don’t need a four door compromise car. 

I fear the coming of the electric revolution is nigh (see the other thread) so I want to stay big displacement and preferably NA as long as I can...I do love the look of the new S-class coupe but don’t love any of the engines and so I still have a hankering for its predecessor the CL600...possibly the last proper MB V12? But by the time I want rid of the RCF it will be possibly a little long in the tooth, although they are pretty much exclusively owned by the garaged and multi-car fraternity so usually polished weekkly and only driven three or four times a year to Ascot!

Funny story - I had a friend who worked in a MB specialist restorer in Worthing and he said they had a Pagoda with bodywork that looked ‘weird’ and colour that was all mismatched. So on a hunch they took a wax remover spray to one of the panels and ended up removing what he said was about a pound of car wax. Once they did every panel the car looked immaculate...the paint matched again and also weighed about 5 pounds less than when it came in (exaggeration  I’m sure - he was three pints in).
