Heavy boot lid

Hi Have only had my 2010 plate is 250 se l for just over a week now and extremely pleased

with it, still playing with all the toys and there are plenty of them.

The reason for my first post is when I unlock the boot lid using any of the three options it pops up

but when you lift it to open it seems rather heavy and feels like there is some resistance. I have 

looked inside the boot and can see there are two gas struts, could these be the cause of the problem.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I had the same problem on my GS300 replaced the gas struts and been fine ever since, also changed the struts on my bonnet.

I have got to say that was a quick reply, thank you.

So does this mean that if I replace both of the gas struts when I unlock 

the boot it will raise by itself like the bonnet ?

Yep - see my recent post under 2008 IS250 boot strut part number. You do need to start the lid off with light finger pressure.

Should the boot lid on the IS250 actually pop up when you release it?  Or should it simply unlock so you can lift it?

It opens a couple of inches then you need a light one finger lift to get it going.

These are the kiddies I got and put on my 2007 IS250, I guess your 2010 is gonna use the same.

note. Price is per each and the ad states IS300 for some reason??? But easy DIY fit, just take one off at a time as the boot lid is gert heavy with No struts attached!! ( don't ask!)

Just want to say a big than you for all the speedy replies.

Have been checking other posts which in hindsight I should have

done before posting my question. Have just ordered a pair of replacement

gas struts from SGS engineering Derby £53 including shipping as recommended

by several other club members.

Another big thank you for all your help and advise, what a great site.

@Johnatg - are these SGS engineering struts the same ones that you recommend?

I've decided it's time i replaced my struts as the boot's been ridiculously heavy for months now

But I remember reading on another forum that the OEMs are best and some of the aftermarket ones are not well made?

Just wondering whether anyone on here has experienced both and so can offer a like for like comparison?

The SGS ones work for me but I've not had them for long. No reason to doubt them so far and they look like good quality.

Just a quick update, received my new struts from SGS this morning and fitted them

this afternoon . from start to finish the job took all of 10 min only wish all the jobs 

could be this easy. Spark plug change this weekend, a little more than 10 min I guess.

When changing the plugs has anyone had to replace the manifold gaskets and if so

did you use aftermarket or genuine Lexus ones.

I've changed plugs but reused the same gaskets. Had no problems.

I changed mine today too, lovely to open, just stiffer to close now 🤣
