New owner of 2006 IS250 SE-L

Hi and good evening

I wanted to join the forum and introduce myself, my name is Michael, 33 from North Lincolnshire.

I have just become the 3rd owner of this very very tidy IS250 SE-L that I bought from my local Marshall's Honda garage in Hull.

For an old motor, wow has this got some kit! I have recently learned that it is the top spec model or very close to, it has every gadget I could possibly ask for and more.

This car was bought as a 'stop gap' between other cars and I had planned on selling it after approx 4-5 months, but after under a week of ownership I think I'll hang on to this gem 😁

A few details and spec:

42K miles

2 previous owners 

Full and complete Lexus service history

Sat Nav

Reversing camera

ML premium sound system

Electric everything

Xenon's

etc etc

The very first thing I did was give the exhaust trims a sorting out and polish, they clearly hadn't been cleaned since new 😳🙊

I am fitting a new pollen filter tomorrow as I suspect that needs doing, I have also just ordered a set of boot gas struts as mine are clearly worn with the effort it takes to open the boot 🤣 I am also on the lookout for an updated sat nav disc.

Lovely car, just like the first Lexus I had.

A little tip when changing the pollen filter.....make sure the air-con is in recirculation mode or you'll bugger it.

Thanks for the tip, I've read about that, it pulls the flap out the way doesnt it so you can access the filter, I've heard of people not knowing this and forcing up the cover breaking it 🙈

Very tidy looking car and really low mileage, think you struck gold with this one. I will be interested to hear after you fit new boot gas struts does it make much of a difference as my boot lid has always seemed quite stiff compared to other cars I've had and I just put it down to the short depth of the boot lid. 

Hope the car turns out to be all you're looking for, it certainly looks the business, all the best.

Welcome on board, great cars so I've found over the last few years. Same colour as mine although I have the grey interior. Just say those pipes were in a right state and it's one of the first things I look for.

I got rid of the wood in mine as I wasn't a fan.

Thank you, I am delighted with it and enjoy it more with every drive, yes the struts are a known issue apparently, once they have been replaced you are meant to be able to lift the tailgate up with one finger....whereas now it needs a full helping hand up, I'm going to start a progress thread on this soon so I'll post everything in there 👍

Judging by the way you have gone at the exhaust tips your a bit of a detailer

Yes mate very straightforward. Most of the switches come off the back once unscrewed. The only tricky bit is around the gear selector I had to cut around it. The cup holder / coin holder lid had to be done in place. The ashtray lid was a bit fiddly.

First-time I'd done it so there's a couple of bits not how I would like but all good apart from that.

Seen your other thread and am looking forward to seeing what you do with it as I'm one of a few on here that like their detailing. Your clearly a few levels up.

I paid £5,570 for this IS, I feel like I robbed them, such a good car for Vauxhall Corsa money

Hi Mike, yep you Got a bargain there. Great trim level the se-l esp the ml stereo very envious the standard one in mine is great though. I have the 220d at the moment. If you're looking at new tyres I recommend the Dunlop sport max rt2. Have them on mine great tyres for the is. Had them nearly two years plenty of tread left and are profiled to protect your alloys.

Another se-l tip, you can set the speedo and rev counter to your personal limits, when reached they turn orange to tell you limit reached v handy feature.

Yeah I'm chuffed at the price, it was initially up for £5900 but they dropped it a couple of days before I bought it, I'd have bought it at £5900 and still called it a bargain.

You going to continue with the lexus services? Mine had a full history until I had it. It had all the stamps and everything had been changed up to the 80k mark but had only done 31k so it felt like new.

I've just continued to do oil and filter changes myself as for me I just didn't think at this age it needed it

Well I like the idea of keeping up with the Lexus servicing, just so it looks good in the book with all their stamps in, but to be honest I'll just be taking it to my mechanic to look after, what oil do you recommed?

Lots of people recommend Mobil 1 fully synth. Had that in my last service by ats. Hasn't used a drop since last july
