Hi

When I was comparing cars to buy, MPG was one of the factors. The dealer said official MPG of 53-54, and insisted that realistically I will get 48.

Have had my RX450 Premier for over two months - best MPG I have been able to get is 31.6 and I have been driving it super smoothly.

Terrible!

I've had my 2010 RX450h for 21 months, I've averaged 33.5 mpg in that period according to the computer. On a long run in Scotland I can get about 39 mpg, in the depths of winter it drops to 28 mpg, never lower.

As 80% of my driving is urban I'm happy enough with those figures, but, what a porky from the dealers!

Mine is give or take about the same although my pattern of driving is slightly different with approx. 50% urban, 40% A and B roads and 10% dual carriageway/motorway (very crude back of a fag packet calculation!).  I'd expect the latest generation of RX to better those figures but maybe it's just a question of it bedding in and if this is your first hybrid getting used to a different style of driving.

Here are my actual results with a 2013 RX450h Luxury.  My local driving is back and to work on rural 30mph and 50mph roads.

Mine is currently on about 26.7mpg. Blame the heavy foot and town driving.

On the motorway, I get about 32-33mpg but I dont hang around.

I have driven sedately on a few occasions - a steady 60mph cruise on A roads and I have managed to get around 38-40mpg but it required a bit of patience and a lot of planning.

Just now, Djwbiker said:

HonestJohn  says for a 450h (2009-2015) official mpg 44.8 - 51.4  and real mpg 33.

That tallies with my figures.  What I was expecting as I did my research before purchase.  I think it's very impressive from such a large, petrol driven vehicle.

Never managed better than 29mpg in our previous 450h... But I have a heavy foot I would rather enjoy the car then strive for economy.

My 155000+ mile 2005  Rx400h does around 31/32 but long trips with M/way 50 speed limits sees it get to 35 - eyeing a 450h 2014 Premier for low price and will take note of previous posts.😊

I've had my Premier for 3 months now and I'm hoping that the computer is more accurate than the one on my old 05 ! My old car had always done about 23 mpg but then it dropped to just over 21 mpg. These figures came from over 5,000 miles so were fairly accurate. I would have been happy with 30 mpg on the Premier and am amazed that it's reading 37 mpg. Even if the real figure ( after more tanks full ) drops to 35 then that's a whole lot better than 21 !

You should never have been told that it could return 48 mpg and I'd want to speak to them about that.

I wish I could get more distance whilst on the EV mode as it drops out very quickly on mine.

They're fully entitled to say it may return 48mpg as unfortunately the figure is around 54mpg.

I should add that this is quite possible providing you are really delicate with your right foot.

I usually get an average of around 30mpg with a mixture of roads but I like driving it not toodling around.

On a long journey I have got that up to around 34mpg on average when on holidays.

On monday, after filling up, I decided to see what I could get on the journey to work and got an average of 44mpg following a lorry all the way up the motorway to work (around 17 miles) but it was boring as hell doing that .. average back to around 30mpg now.

I thought the 450's were supposed to be better than the 400's.

They are

Realistically, 400hs can't get anywhere near even 25mpg most of the time.

And considering these new ones weigh nearly 300-400kg more

I had a drive from where I live in Rochdale to Bury on the A roads. I stuck to the speed limits but got their damn quick lol. It's all up and down hill and lots of bends. When I got home I looked at the display and blow me it read 42.2mpg. That is superb considering its a 3.5 litre V6 petrol. On motorway to Leeds sticking to the limit I get a nats over 40mpg but if I travel at let's say 80mph for example  (cough cough) I get middle 30's. Damn good cars.

Ya'll aren't doing too bad. I got a Harrier because the dealer said the small engine was more economical. Averaging about 19-20mpg but I drive fast.

They lied. The hybrids are more economical than standard models, even with the smaller engine.

450h is definitely better than the 400h - you should see 3 mpg or more. What that figure is depends on your driving style and type of roads you drive on, but given the same conditions the 450h should be better.

I'd normally get around 33 mpg from my 400h around town and drop to 28 on runs. 450h courtesy cars I've had were always better than that.

Indeed they did, but hey I'll take a few less mpg if I don't have to ever replace a hybrid Battery pack :P

The auto transmission in the 300 has a higher failure rate than hybrid Battery packs and they cost more to repair too.  I know we're talking single figure percentage failure rates for both but still.....
