Hi everyone, the is due it’s service soon, but I was wondering wether to buy the genuine Lexus service kit and Toyota oil from my local dealer, which I’ve always done or should I get all the bits from ECP or CP4less. Is there any difference in quality. I can service kit and 5L of 5W30 from my main dealer for £70. I’d still 2 litres of oil though which my local Indy just adds to cost of service. Thanks guys.

This is a can of worms topic. Everyone has there favorite and which one you should use and why. I have just purchased oil and filter £35.00. But mine is changed every 3000 mls.

And that will bring loads more why? Because i can and want to, and being half what most pay for one service.

You can get that kit as a full one i already done other filters.

I always replace the sump bolt. You could use a copper washer would do the same. This is the one i buy.

Superior washers of correct composite specification and they'll last me quite a while!

It was great value for money, considering genuine parts

Thanks John. Also what oil is best to use. I do roughly 4-5k each year. I usually by the genuine service kit and Toyota 5W 30 from the main dealer in Liverpool. It’s £24 for 5L but I need roughly 7L. What’s the best option. Many thanks.

I have used Dexos2 but have recently switched to Exol Optima LSG which I buy in a 20 litre drum for £60 - I service several cars (about 5) and use it in all of them.

But £24 for Toyota oil is a good price - just buy 2 cans and keep the extra 3 litres for next time!

Any good 5W30 is fine.

Just serviced mine today - I change the oil and filters twice a year as only small miles done. Use Magnatec, always have done as its a brand I trust although if I had the opportunity to buy 20 litres I would as it would make a lot of sense doing so.

So, oil, oil filter, air filter, brake discs (front), brake pads (front) and greased all slide pins front and back took 3 hours. All the parts cost me £98 which I am happy with ..... what would the Lexus labour charge be?

I also replaced the standard paper filter with a K&N oiled one. It does make a difference and its noticeable on cold starts - have had one in all cars owned and as I tend to keep the cars till they die so it makes sense to me as they can be cleaned and re-used. MOT next month which is the first time for me with this car so want to make sure it passes as it has done on all previous ones.

The 3 hours taken included cleaning the alloys (inner and outer and waxing them)

It was April this year when I cleaned and greased the pins but this time I noticed the drivers side one was a bit stiff (one with the rubber washer on it) Usually re-grease these every 6 months and I think this time around if I had left it a year until checking it would be seized as the existing grease in the pin assembly was black and the pin was quite hard to remove from the slide assembly. Came out though, cleaned and went in easy.

do you use the genuine Lexus/Toyota service kit, or buy another make from somewhere else. There isn’t that much difference in price when buying from CP4L or ECP. What do you think.

I don't buy much from carparts4less for the Lexus, although I do sometimes use them for Peugeot, Seat, etc parts.
