I broke my Lug Nut Stud :(

So I went about installing my G-Spyder wheels to my IS250 and one of the Lug Nut studs broke as I was torquing down the lug nuts. Does anyone know if these are an easy replacement? It was on the front passenger side of the car.

Doh, did you use a torque wrench? 

Although the stud could well have been damaged by a garage/tyre shop using a windy gun.

The studs are usually splined into the hub and can be driven out and back in with a hammer/press.

You may have to turn the hub to a specific point to allow the stud clearance to drop out the back.

Yep, any half-decent garage could sort that no problem if you don't fancy having a go yourself.

The studs are just pressed into the hub, so in theory you can just hammer that broken one out. An easy way of fitting a new one is to pull it through and into position by installing a few open-ended nuts on the threads and continually tighten them until the stud is seated properly.

I just had a look online and can’t find anyone locally selling the studs. I’ll try and ring Toyota and I’ll have a go at it myself if I can. I just found out they’re not too hard to do. Do you know what size nut I’ll need to use when pulling the stud through?

Well thanks to everyone that replied, I managed to go to Toyota, but the stud and replace it and to be honest, it’s sudh an easy job. If anyone experiences this problem, then you just need to remove the Caliper and bracket, brake disc, and replace the broken stud (£10 for nut and bolt) and then put everything back together. The lug nut will bring the stud into the hub.

I was late to the party... had same problem 2 month ago, same experience - quick job. Got the stud from local Toyota dealership for £5.78, didn't need the nut.

I was surprised how easy it was to change one on the front. I suspect the rear might be slightly difficult. I can feel another stud starting to show signs of failure 😞

That was my worry as well, if one broke.. what are the chances of them all giving their way, was tempted to change all 20, but for £5.78 a piece I though it was excessive. As well I was surprised how easy it was to brake it... I have pretty much hand tightened it and it didn't take any force at all on the torque wrench... just felt soft.

I broken the rear one, same steps as for the front one, didn't need to touch drum parking brake or anything, probably little bit less room to fiddle the stud in.

I'd say yes if driving at low speed only but not on a motorway or dual carriageway, after all many cars just have four studs.

A garage snapped a stud on the rear wheel of the 200t. It was a simple replacement. I had all 5 done just in case the others had been stretched.

The damage was allegedly done by the previous tyre place who did not use a torque wrench and the lazy so and so's just used the pneumatic drill. This stretched and weakened all the nuts involved.

I always ask if the tyre depot knows the correct torque. They must think I am a right pain but  I want to know if they know their job.
