Hi folks

I have recently discovered 2 very small areas of rust on the edge of the wheel arch which I thought would be an easy repair job for someone who knew what they were doing (not me.)

I have been told by 2 repairers that the rust needs to be removed after which the entire panel will need to be repainted. This seems to be a lot of work (and expense) for such a minor problem.

Would it be possible to just remove the rust and hide any resulting cosmetic damage  to the edge of the arch with some kind of arch trim or I am going to have to cough up (again.)

Any thoughts, comments and advice would be gratefully received

Do the wings on an IS just bolt-on? What about sourcing another wing in the same colour and swapping them over?

I would not consider any type of arch trim as these can harbour moisture and make your rust problem very much worst but you just won't be able to see it!

I agree you better of leaving rust alone then covering with any sort of trim (even after fixing). As for whole panel repaint - that would be standard (good) practice and depending on colour maybe only option e.g. you can do sort of "smart repair" on solid colour (like mine astral black), but definitely not a way to go on any metallic colours. Considering, quite sharp style lines around front arches I tend to believe smart repair job would be doable and potentially easy to hide (using style lines).
