Parking brake travel - too much?

Recommended Posts

There does seem to be quite a bit of travel on the parking brake of my RX400h. I'm just wondering if it's normal or too much.

If we're to use the "clicks" it travels about 8 or 9 before holding the car on a slope.

Any thoughts?

It has full Lexus history and was last serviced in September 2017. I'll dig the paperwork out for any mention of it.

But does that travel seem excessive?

MOT testers use the "6 click rule". So if its 8/9 clicks, theyll mark it down as being excessive.

I don't think its adjusted on servicing and I would expect it to be around 6 so would probably get it adjusted.

According to the service check sheet for my RC the parking brake pedal travel is checked at each full service interval and is indicated as between 7-10 'clicks'

Mine just says "Inspect Hand brake" with a juicy tick next to it lol

On both cars I suspect most likely because its the same dealer using the same checklist sheet
