Hello folks,

I've got a blowing exhaust and am looking at my options.

Has anyone bought this and has any comments on quality, noise and fitment: Link

26 of them have been sold so far in a 4 month period!

I believe that his is the one that I have on my car, but I cannot say for certain as It was purchased like it.

Sounds nice though

'Sounds nice though' does this mean that it is a bit noisier than the stock exhaust or as you got the car with it fitted you cannot tell.

I ask as some after market exhaust do sound a bit ' throatier' and to start with it may be appealing but after a while it can become slightly annoying on what after all is a bit of a serene car so to speak.

Got it and fitted last year, easy fit good quality no discernible extra noise, still virtually silent at idle. Try and save your old tail pipe trims though or buy new ones like I did.

Before going down the route of replacing, is a repair an option as these OEM are top quality and can last a very long time so have you actually seen failed location and had a second opinion perhaps! Just a thought as I know most garages would choose replace over repair all day long but they ain't paying are they?

Great thanks

Could you please post a picture to show fitting.

I've had poor experience in the past with welding the exhaust (on two different cars). It's more of a temporary fix in my view.

The backbox on the driver side is definitely leaking but there could be multiple leaks.

I will get the exhaust checked in more detail.

Thanks

Many thanks Mike.

I've ordered it and will report back once fitted.

I know it is a pita when doing the job, dirty hands and you just want to get it done, but some pics along the way would be welcome, we all like pics don't we?

best of luck Paul m.

Just reporting back that the exhaust is quiet and well made, however the fitting is poor on mine.

Did you use the original rubber hangars? I used new ones that said Ford Sierra on the packet.  They work fine.

Hi all.

Don't mean to be criticalJami and please don't take any offence but the picture from the bay seller looks to me like it is not level especially the right hand one same as yours if the picture on his listing reflects the one on your car it may be the reason it is like it is .

Iam not being critical but just mention as i see it.

I think other forum members have looked into a genuine Lexus one but was very expensive and one member if i remember had a st/st fitted.

The original hangers are being used. I'll try a shorter hangar on the drivers side but I a bit sceptical. The amount of correction needed is way too high.

Hey michael,

I am with you on this. Reinstalling the lexus exhaust is no longer an option but I don't think this will stay on very long either.

I have adjusted an exhaust a few times on my last car after making one and spending time to fit it.

If your exhaust has been delivered to you then it has probably been knocked around and put out of line in the process - the only issue you should find in replacing the back boxes are the two bolts that hold it to the centre section as the fitment to the rubber hangers is good.

There may be two resolutions - possibly the wrong hole has been selected on the rubber hanger when fitting the boxes ...  but in the picture it looks like as stated above, the boxes are out of alignment. I think this can be seen in the picture due to the strain seem on the drivers side hanger just poking out from the bumper. It would be an easy job if you have ramps to remove the boxes and straighten - only straighten the drivers side. I would do it sooner rather than later as the joint to the centre section will rust as the replacement boxes will be mild steel but not the same grade of steel used as the centre section.

I think it would be quite an easy fix - even taking it to ATS for them to do - should be an easy job. It may start to knock on the body work if left

On my Volvo 940 the aftermarket exhaust was not bent properly and was mm from the body in one place. The garage re bent the pipe and all is well.

As said the 2 boxes need to be further apart and right side up higher. Probably a good garage or exhaust shop would have it sorted easily.

Have you contacted the seller and shown them that pic to see what they 'think'?

Gentlemen, thank you for your comments.

A specialist (Mr Exhaust in Reigate) has confirmed that the exhaust is fitted correctly and this is a manufacturing issue. It will need modification to make it straight. I've been quoted circa £250 to do this and it will come with a 2 year guarantee.

Although I don't mind the additional cost to fix this, I am a bit annoyed with the seller and will want to return.

I've parked the car up now and will be looking at other options.

Hi all.

Sorry to here this Jami.

In all honesty when i looked at the bay picture it did not look quite wright to me not level and you have now had this confirmed which in one way good but in another way a pain in the back side.

I think the seller should either replace with one that is correct or refund your money as it is not wright:wacko:

I have recieved a reply from this seller as I contacted them with a view to needing an exhaust sometime in the future for my 11 year old 250. I directed them to the pics posted above and asked about the alignment issue, they say they are made in a 'jig' so either the 'jig' has gone 'out' or it is operator error, but the blame is going to Postman Pat!

Quote..
I have the listing open so that people can see all the feedback (good or bad). The exhausts are made in a jig so that everything is correct
However due to the size and design it is possible for a knock to put the system out of line slightly and once in the hands of the couriers I have to trust that they will treat them well.
If there is a problem with the fit a replacement exhaust once the bad one has been returned.

Kind regards

Hi all:thumbup:

Seems in my view that blaming the post man is a get out clause.

The picture to me looks like the right hand backbox is not straight as Jami has found out at his expense ( sorry Jami not being nasty)

I would find someone else if possible and stay away from this particular seller.🙁

Hi all.

Just re read the sellers answer in your post Paul.🙄

Let me get this wright if when you have chopped off your old exhaust and you fit the new one and it looks c**p and and hangs down you then have to send it back to him presumably at your expense and hope he does the decent thing and sends you a new one mean while your pride and joy is stuck with no exhaust.😞

Er no in my view stick the exhaust where the sun does not shine and find a decent reputable supplier.😖

Hi everyone.

Nobody seems to have mentioned the boxing/packaging of the exhaust. @Exdee how was the exhaust delivered? Was there adequate packaging? Any item can be sent via courier if it is adequately packaged. I realise an exhaust is going to be a challenge to package, but it's far from impossible.

... also, would the fitter of the exhaust not have noticed the misalignment and corrected ? I think you have had pool service there also from the fitter.
