is200d timing marks / pins - head gasket replacement

Hi,

I have recently bought a Lexus is220d and now found why I got it so cheap - head gasket gone/going !

I have seen there are loads of posts regarding this and the extended warranty - but my car is 9 years old so lexus will not fix it for free.

Anyway...I am looking to change the head gasket myself but have run into a few snags and was hoping for some help from anyone with a 220d.

Where can I get a proper overhaul manual showing torque values etc. ?

where are the timing marks on the is220d to show TDC etc.??

where are the locations for the timing pins ? there are timing pins required for head removal right ??

obviously the timing chain will have to come off for this job, so is it worth replacing this or will this last forever ???

the dealers have told me I need to remove the head to check what head gasket is required - is this right ?? they have said there are 5 different options for head gaskets depending on piston protrusion at TDC and thickness required - apparently they all have a mark A,B,C,D or E on them - where is this mark on the head gasket ??

AS I now know, the last owner put radweld or similar into the coolant to sell off the car (the bas@%&d), so I am planning to change the drive belt, water pump, coolant, thermostat, radiator cap, oil & filter, and the fuel filter at the same time - and clean out the EGR and inlet manifold along with the head gasket replacement.

Have I missed out anything else that could/should be done at this time ???

You can take extended warranty until the car is 10 years old and has under 140,000 miles.

Mine was 9 years 11 months old when I took out the extended warranty for two years, it cost £950 for two years warranty including the top AA Home Recovery Breakdown cover for two years.

I have had the water pump and coolant etc. and the clutch release bearing changed under warranty and there is still another year left on the warranty - it's a no brainer really to take the warranty out, I did purely for the head gasket failure problem which if done properly can cost about £4000!
