Hi all,

First post!

I'll get to the point though. A few months back I bought a IS250 2005. Love the car a LOT. The only "issue" I find is that its not very loud.. I mean, I don't want it to be ear piercing but a saw a few videos on YouTueb with custom exhausts that make the car sound a million times better. Unfortunately the kits they sell are in the US-of-A and after TAX + shipping the price goes from $400 dollars to $900. Are there any good sellers that produce a similar thing in UK? Also, what about the tuning? Since the exhaust flow will be significantly less restricted.

Cheers

Hi Jakub

Welcome to the LOC

I can't offer any specific advice on exhausts but I suspect you will have to have something custom made here in the UK.

Keep us posted as to how you get on

Sadly, the choice of accessories for Lexus in UK are nowhere near like in US. The price of local accessories even if you get lucky to find some will be similar to US part + tax and shipping. Maybe the only advantage that you won't need to wait for several weeks.

As for tuning - IS250 has NA engine and to be honest exhaust restriction makes no difference whatsoever. Even if you going to change entire exhaust to straight pipe the potential gain of power will be ~2-5hp if any (actually some less restricted systems even reduce power as some back pressure is needed for efficiency). Now considering you only going to change silencers - it would make no difference whatsoever in terms of overall system restriction as silencers are not event that restrictive on IS250. So the only gain from aftermarket silencers is louder exhaust - that is it. If you would have like 600hp turbocharged car, then obviously there would be gains to be made on exhaust, intake and tuning. On NA 2.5L 204hp.. there are nothing to be gained. I guess the only possible change would be adding supercharger, but the price of set-up would exceed the price of the car (easily).

Hi Sopel

I've got an IS250 like you (2007 model) and I went for the Magnaflow stainless steel exhaust

imported from USA it cost around £700 total including import charges.

Just look for one of the ebay sellers who accepts offers and then you can bid it down to a reasonable price. They will probably be keen to get rid of the stock seeing as I can't imagine they would sell that many these days...

It's got a good sound although just a little too raspy for my liking. Will see if I can put some mufflers in there somewhere to reduce the rasp.

By the way, in terms of performance it's definitely noticeable. The good news is you can feel the car open up more in the top RPM range as there's less airflow restriction.

The bad news is that you get reduced back pressure as a result and so it feels quite a bit less torquey when you are below 3K RPM.

hope this helps!

find a stainless specialist in your area with good reviews  i paid 750 incl fitting from cat back on gs430 sport , and when i  said i was'nt loud enough they put 2 smaller boxes on the rear and gave me the  quieter ones as well no money difference . i used custom chrome in nuneaton warks . it may be a little out of your way tho.

Can you share the pictures how it looks, because any "specialist" in my area either don't know how to weld (totally cooks the metal), or don't know how to cut (make a puzzle of 1cm long sections).... and I am not even talking about anyone knowing how to properly bend the pipes (crushes crap out of all bends), overall it seems that custom mandrel bending for car exhaust hasn't reached UK yet (or perhaps has already left it, due to prevailing anti-car culture).

EMy 250 have Magnaflow from cat and i love the sound, my wife dont. More sound in the lower end.

Not sure why but yeah, if there is no rear section back pressure, the lower end torque becomes poor. Also there is more drone noise at lower rpm.

So is there an exhaust that will be quiet at low rpm but noiser at higher? And not change the lower end torque?

Yes. The HKS exhaust above. It actually increases power if anything too.
