Had a scare today.

The car at idle was approx 250 rpm. Whilst driving it was about 150 rpm. It kept stalling on me. Left it a few minutes then the idle was approx 480 rpm ish and drive above 400rpm. It never stalled since. However I want this checking out.

Any clues please as I do not want to stall on motorway...........

Thanks

i think there was a throttle body issue on the early ones if i remember my old mk11 used to stall after a long run then come up a slip road it would cut out ,i used to switch the air con on to bring the revs up not a fix but it solved my stalling issues

the lpg set-up might be causing an issue  ?  you do have lpg ? .  it's in the name !

Didn't know the Mk4 had the stalling syndrome, thought it was just the Mk3

whatever, the revs seem ridiculously low in all the instances you mention

Sounds like a sensor or MAF failure.

Only clean the throttle if it’s clearly sticking and dirty, a little dirt is ok. Also use throttle body cleaner as there is a protective surface film easily damaged by abrasive cleaning agents.

Is it best to take it garage or DIY for throttle cleaning.

Go to this web site if you want to DIY clean the throttle.

My Mk4 had similar problems, and had throttle cleaned at last service, been as right as rain since

Lexus Tutorials  - though tutorials not for Mk4, throttle should be the same.
