Hi All,

i need to get my convertible roof looked at, as it is making a lot of noise when on rough roads. The closest dealers to me are Southampton or Guildford. Does anyone have good or bad experiences of either?

Thank you

Hi Philip,

If by Southampton you mean Hedge End then I can vouch for them. They do all my servicing and on the few occasions I've had any problems with my car they have sorted things out very well and given me a loan car.

Hi Philip is it coming from the roof or from the back where the pull out is or parcel shelf? My mrs IS250c has a rattle from the the rear parcel shelf on rough roads but is fine on motorways and dual carriageways.I have tried some small wedges and even some bungee cords but can't seem to stop it.I don't drive it very often but when i do it drives me nuts but the mrs said it doesn't bother her.

It is a common problem and people have had the roofs replaced under warranty but still didn't cure it.I think its one of the down sides to a hard top convertible even our previous Merc SLK rattled away on rough roads.

In fairness we did know about the rattle issues on these when we bought it but the mrs wanted it and it doesn't seem to bother her.A great car otherwise though.

Hi Eamonn,

You have described my rattle perfectly, I was going to start a new thread on it. I did do a lot of research about the rattle and thought I had read somewhere that Lexus had come up with a fix, which was adding some washers, after they had taken the roof to pieces.

I have also see on YouTube a fix using gaffa tape on the hooks within the roof sections!

Maybe I should try the gaffa tape first? The car is still under warranty, so am hoping the garage I got it from will pay for it all?

Hi ,continuing on the dealership theme ,I have finally got the OK for the air bag recall , for all the years I have had Lexus cars I have never even been inside a main dealers, my nearest dealers appear to be Bolton ,Stockport or Chester and I will of course have to entrust the work to one of these , any advice gratefully received

Well if they are as efficient as most lexus dealers it will be fine,it will also be washed and you might even get ÂŁ25 of fuel put in for your trouble and if there feeling extra generous a bottle of Lexus water in the drinks holder.

My car was 2 years old when purchased and no rattles at all. Over the years the rattle from I think the parcel shelf developed. I read about the dealer fix but when I asked lexus Ipswich, who have been very good in all other respects, they said there was no fix for the roof that there were aware of. As the rattle only happens on rough roads when the roof is up I've learned to live with it.

Hi Nick,

Thank you for the info, maybe I should try the youtube gaffer tape fix, and see how I get on? If it ever stops raining!!

Good luck Philip. I finally found that U tube video. Go easy with the gaffer tape though, nothing worse than a stuck roof!
