Looks good and it certainly looks like it’s been really well looked after. Could be a good buy.

That sounds like a proper Genuine car which really needs to go to a LOC member.

- Exhaust Overhaul - 01/08/16. Upgraded to Stainless Steel Exhaust Pipes - still discreetly hidden as they were originally, gives a nice v8 sound, not too loud.

Just noticed this on the sales blurb ...........  bit odd, doesn't the Mk4 Ls400 have a stainless steel exhaust as OEM ?

Maybe all is not as it might seem with this advert

In what way?  You can see from the pics and the suspension its not factory spec, so not one for the purists, but some discrete mods wouldn’t turn me away

you only had to read my post !

advertiser tells us he's put on a s/s exhaust ...........  when it already had one !  or doesn't the Mk4 have that as OEM like the other Ls400s ?

It sounds like this car has been looked after, and maybe had a full exhaust replacement when the Y-piece started to blow, or wanted a slightly differnent burble when cruising.

Interestingly when I had my Y-piece down by some exhaust specialists they said the rest of the pipework was not stainless.

I know that they were wrong, but maybe there is stainless steel and then there is 'stainless steel', in the world of exhausts.

If I needed a green LS (not my colour - also the wheels are not my thing) I would consider paying that for a well looked after 400, rather than spend it on a Audi/BMW etc.

Hopefully a LOC member decides it is worth it.

I believe it does, however I’m assuming he’s fitted a replacement for additional sound - not a deal breaker to me, if it’s been done properly. it’s modded, yes, so won’t appeal to the purists.

Does that model not have the same issue of rusting flanges which may require attention and could be a time to replace more of the system?

I interpret the exhaust comment as smeone taking out a silencer to get a bit of V8 burble; and fitting adjustable springs in similar mode.

Gold badges only on back (at least didn't gold plate the wheels) Looks and reads very well.

Cheap flight to Glasgow and nice ride home? Even a w/end there?

I did Bristol to Aran to collect Avantgarde Duo speakers once-IN my LS. The speakers JUST fitted in, in sections! Nice weekend trip.

maybe I'll just stop reading the adverts ................... and believing what people say :yahoo:

Yes & it's £570.00, thats around the sort of price folks would be asking about 5 or 6 years ago, not the  .£5 or 6k many commercial sellers are asking now,.....no idea why this writing comes up on a grey background

It does seem to be becoming a habit drawing attention to Cars for sale.  I don't recall it happening on a daily basis when I first joined.  Makes me wonder if members are actually satisfied with their vehicles or want for change?

Personally I seem to keep looking at C and S class Mercs even though I know that other than seating comfort (not made for small Jap bums) and Cabin head height, the period I'm looking at has the dreaded Rad, Air suspension and Rust issues.

Then I come to my senses though this car has cost me a packet and still has issues. Leaking p/s , Caps when weather improves. Rusty drivers side wing - too expensive to get a new replacement so will be a bodge with filler,  which probably won't make me happy.

Better the devil so hey ho!

Thats it in a nutshell.

My LS has about 10 things that really need sorting, that will probably mean spending over £1.5k to sort out, but even when I get in my mates 6 year C Class, I cannot help thinking that when it is 18 years old, will it be up to the job, and actually as cheap to maintain.

From my perspective, I’m just trying to help people out by pointing out ads to cars, as I know these cars are more popular now and not everyone has time to look.

I can see it being repetitive though, so will hold off from now.

I’ve also just reached the 12m ownership milestone, which normally means I buy something else (has happened for the last 5 years).

12m?

Surely.....?  12K?

And....what else WOULD you buy? after selling my Ser 4 car, I couldn't see anything that was nowt but a step back in quality.

(El Grand van was good though...) Even my BMW owning , car obssessed neighbour thinks Lexus better.

Keep the ad info going! People like to look.

I have to say I thought I would say the same about a step back in quality, but after just buying a 2005 GS I believe the quality is equal or even better.

In many ways it feels very similar going from an LS to a GS.  It's still a big car. The road noise I would say is similar, many of the toys are the same, I still have a rear blind but not vibrating seats (which I never got to use). The build quality feels better, the doors close with a wonderful sound! Cabin noise is very low, fuel consumption is much better and it's only about half a second slower to 60. The ride is great, roundabouts no longer feel like a boat on water with much less body roll.  The interior would compete with anything made today.  It's a real pleasure to drive.  Saying all that, I love the LS and will always have a soft spot for it!  The one I've bought has been impeccably maintained which must help with the overall feel.  Seats are still very comfortable.

Music system isn't ML but still excellent.

Sounds tempting - or atleast a contender if the LS owners want a change - enjoy - and IIRC you always say we all like pictures!

12k ??  I meant 12 months, sorry :)

Tis a tough one for sure.  I do so few miles, i wouldn’t necessarily need a similar type of car.  Something manual might be nice, after 5 consecutive autos.
